I had Cinna (Rex) and Oliver (Holland Lop) outside the other day when a jack rabbit came running into the yard and up to Oliver (My backyard isn’t fenced in but it’s quite the long run up the side of the house to the front yard so I never have any problems keeping the two of them in the back.). Oliver and the other rabbit started sniffing each other when Cinnamon runs at and attacks this Jack Rabbit. She knocked it over and when it got back up it started sprinting down the side of the house and Cinna chased after. At this point I’m in full blown panic, I’ve never seen a jack rabbit in this area of town and I never had expected something like this. So I started chasing after Cinna and boy were these two running fast. I saw the jack rabbit run into the street and I’m not sure if Cinnamon listened to my cries to stop or just decided that pavement wasn’t her thing that day but she stopped on the edge of the lawn in her attack stance with her ears down. I scooped her up and carried her back inside.

Has anyone else experienced an interaction between your rabbits and a wild rabbit? How did it go? Is there anything I should be worried about? Both Cinna and Oli are acting and eating normal.

We’ve had curious wild rabbits come visit but nothing antagonistic? With our bridge bunny, Whisky, we used to let him have free reign of the yard and one time a rabbit jumped through the hedges and curiously approached, despite us being around. We were really worried that Whisky might take off with it or something but despite some curious sniffs the rabbit eventually left. It came back an hour later but it quickly left since I was too close to the hedge that time.

The second time, our current buns saw one through the fence and it came right up to check them out. Our buns seemed to grow bored of it eventually and went back to playing around the yard but the wild bun stayed camped out by the fence for a good half hour before it got spooked off by people passing by.

When I was young, I grew up in a house with a big horse pasture and 7-8 foot brick wall all around the yard. This yard was tightly patrolled by one lion of a mini lop! She would sometimes be seen chasing neighborhood cats back over the walls. Sometimes she would venture into the front yard (free range took on a whole new meaning with this bunny) but would always stay within the property. I suspect Cinna just stopped when she did because that was the end of her property. Her boundary of protection.
