Honeybun is a gray lop that we took in about a week ago. He came into a shelter underweight and with a terrible infection in one eye. They were going to euth him right away because of his condition, so we took him. He is going in for surgery today to have one eye removed. It is so badly infected that the vets think he is already blind in that eye, and the risk of the infection spreading is high. Dr. Harvey is doing the surgery. You can read more about Honeybun on our website.

I think in this case, the owner was known because the owner brought the bunny in and surrendered him, but the shelter accepted relinquishment of the animal rather than persue the case further. This happens a lot, animal neglect cases are very hard and expensive to persue, and usually AC will just take the animal away. The penalties are also very small in a case like this, usually just a small fine. |

I know I know...It's terrible...There is a particularly heinous case going on right now where I am involving a dog and two offenders one young...One got practically nothing..One has continually been delayed ...Even in this case where it was so heinous and terrible I'm sure neither will see the inside of cell. The courts/judges need to realize that these offenses are serious and punish the individuals properly...If they dont' care for the animal then they could at least be concerned that people who neglect/abuse animals go on and neglect/abuse people!!! I think if we had accepted any abused animals when I volunteered with a shelter, that we probobly wouldn't have reported as that may have discouraged future cases from relinguishing their animals... Still, I wish there was a little vigilante action in cases like these... |

I should get an official update sometime later today from Rich at Rabbit Row who is doing the post operative care, but the surgery went well, and Honeybun is up and about! The surgery was actually performed at the VCA Oakland hospital by Dr. Juliana Sorem with Dr. Harvey assisting (on her day off too).

Yay! Glad to hear surgery went well. Grace says, in her opinion, that bunnies do not even need two eyes, she said she gets around just fine with one, and that in fact, Honeybunn has now joined a select group of one eyed bunnies and that she, Grace, and Deanna need to all get together sometime and discuss how much they dissapprove of two - eyed bunnies. I hope she finds an angel to adopt her soon |

I have a couple of updates on Honeybun, you can read them on our website. He sailed through the surgery to remove his infected eye, and was neutered at the same time. He is still with Rich of Rabbit Row, and will hopefully be returning to The Haven soon. |

Honeybun is back with The Haven! He continues to improve, and his eye is healing. Hopefully, he'll be ready for adoption after a few weeks of TLC.
