So recently I had a rodent infestation in the house, so I set up bait traps and it seems like the amount of rodents have decreased. However, this morning I woke up to find maggots on the kitchen floor, and they were coming from under the walls!!! I went into the bathroom and they were also on the floor and crawling on the walls!! I think it’s because the dead rodents are in the walls but I immediately took my Frankie and put him in his play room and locked him in because they weren’t in that room and they weren’t in my bedroom. I am freaking out that they are going to gravitate towards that room and harm him because they made their way to the living room, which is where he normally hangs out. I don’t know if they can harm him or if that’s only when flies lay eggs on them that the maggots will harm them but I’m afraid and I don’t know what to do! The exterminator doesn’t come until Tuesday and my boyfriend put a thick line of salt outside the playroom’s door since salt kills them but I’m still mortified!!!

I can imagine you would be freaked out! It’s flies you’d need be more concerned about.

If rats, then flies have gotten in between the walls, do ask the exterminator to investigate where they’re getting in.

For the room where you’ve put Frankie, make sure you block of access points where flies could get in. It’s the litterbox they would be attracted to, so clean more frequently until the issue is resolved. Also check his bottom often. If he’s got clean, dry fur, it shouldn’t be an issue.
The flies gravitate to damp, smelly areas or wounds.

If he’s in habit of leaving cecatrophes (the droppings they’re supposed to eat) remove those when you see them so they don’t get mushed on the fur.

You could put some fly traps, sticky papers etc in the room also. Out of Frankies way, of course! I hope you get a resolution soon. You must be grossed out! These things happen unfortunately. I have a lot of mice running about the yard lately. I don’t mind that so long as they don’t come into the house.
