I know rabbits don’t like being picked up but I need to pick him up so I can check to make sure he’s a male and I would like to cut his nails. I’ve had him for 5 weeks and he is 10 weeks old (almost 11). He will come and hop on my lap but as soon as I try to pick him up he jumps out. Can anyone help me bond with him more so he trusts me to pick him up?

Tbh I don’t think bonding with him will necessarily make him feel okay with being picked up.

Most bunnies hate being picked up or held. As a prey animal, this is perfectly normal. Unfortunately, we do need to pick them up sometimes. I recommend asking a vet or bunny experienced person to show you proper handling and help you do his nails for the first time. Most bunny owners will tell you doing bunny nails is a real pain in the butt and it’s important to know the best way to do it.

As the others have said, being picked up is sth most rabbits really, really hate. So that’s normal. What I wanted to add was that at 10-11 weeks, I doubt there would be much proof of him being a male to see down there. Testicles tend to drop at 12 weeks or later, more commonly later.
