Hi guys. I have noticed that my bunny, Thumper, eye is a little red in the corner, and I possibly think it is an eye infection. He is eating and pooping fine, I just want to make sure the eye situation goes away and is treated. I can not take him to the vet with how busy I am everyday, but I have look up home remedies and found out I could use Chamomile tea and honey mix together and put it in his eye. Is this safe? If not, does anybody knows a treatment that works and is safe? Thanks

I wouldn’t reccomend putting honey or tea in his eye. You can rinse it with a saline solution-you can google a recipe if you can’t buy it. Can you take a picture of the eye? Some areas of the eye are naturally red, but if it is an eye infection, it would be best treated by a vet.

You could also try teramycin ointment, an OTC antibiotic eye ointment.

You can use a cooled used chamomile tea-bag as an eye-compress, but don’t put honey in the eye. I’d just rinse with cooled homemade saline or saline eyewash for humans and see if it gets better.

Good call – chamomile tea is really good for eye problems. You can also add a few drops of iodine to the tea prior to dipping in the washcloth for extra disinfecting power. If you suspect potential blocked tear duct, apply the tea compress warm rather than cooled to help unclog the ducy. In addition, over the counter human eye drops containing fucidin can be very effective.
