Hi all, this is Frank. A few weeks back we started noticing some “crust” and redness around his lips. When it didn’t dissipate we took him to the bunny vet last weekend. No mites. No lesions on other body parts (aka no syphilis). His teeth are looking fine. His appetite is as strong as usual. No recent change in living accommodations/surroundings. The doctor mentioned that he might have a banana allergy or something, but it all seemed pretty vague. Very little info on the web as far as we can tell. We’re not feeding him fruit for the time being and applying this natural oil ‘balm’ we were given, but so far there’s been limited impact. Has anyone seen something like this before? Thoughts/advice would be amazing. Really really sorry for the ‘graphic’ image. It looks so painful! We just want him to feel better ASAP

If I were to guess (and I’m not a vet), I would say it looks like syphilis. Just because he doesn’t have any lesions “down there”, doesn’t mean it isn’t syphilis. BunnyTowne found this out the hard way. Her vet insisted her bunny’s mouth crusties were not syphilis because he didn’t have any anywhere else. After months of frustration, she finally got the vet to treat for it and the lesions finally went away. If she’s around, she can probably explain the story a little bit better.
