Hi there! I live in Miami and 2 days ago someone alerted me that a family was evicted from their home and just left their 4 bunnies outside with no water or proper shelter. There appear to be 3 girls and 1 boy and all of them are probably 3-5 months old. I picked them up and got them safe in my home. I now need help getting them into a rescue or into foster homes. I have called Miami-Dade humane society, Broward Humane Society, Eco Deco pet hospital, and Luv-a-bun but everyone has turned me away.

Does anyone know of other rabbit rescues or foster homes in South Florida?

Thank you for all your help!

Thank you for taking them in!

Maybe this group? Or they can suggest others for you?

There is also the Bunderground Railroad (Facebook) that organises transport of rabbits if an out of state organisation can take these rabbits in.

ETA: The boy will have to be separated from the girls.

Thank you so much for that advice! Yea, I am going to take them to my vet to find out their gender so I know which one(s) need to be separated because I am not sure if one is a boy or which one is. The person who found them thought 1 could be a boy and they are very scared and squirmy so I don’t want to put their spines in danger by holding them in a way to check their privates.

            Bunny adventures!

It’s strange, they seem in good condition from the photo. Certainly well fed, or maybe all three are female and expecting babies!!!
Goodness me, why isn’t anyone taking them?
Do they think they are yours maybe ?

This link is for rescue groups by state, there are several in Florida. http://rabbit.org/independent-rabbit-rescue/

Here is a link for a list of rabbit savvy vets in your area. Maybe one would know of some other small rescues in the area or know of foster homes. http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/vets.html

Unfortunately, most rescues stay full, but I hope that you can find some help for the bunnies.

Thank you for the info! I will try more places. Unfortunately the people who run HARE (bio.miami.edu/hare) never answer the phone, emails, messages-nothing. They are supposed to be the House Rabbit Society contact for Miami but I am not sure they are even operating.

The city of Miami animal shelter told me to take the rabbits to a pet store! My heart is breaking for these buns.

Yea, the neighbor told me that when they asked the family being evicted what they were going to do with the bunnies they said. “I don’t know and I don’t care. Not my problem anymore!”
So I have a feeling they were a recent impulse buy for children maybe.

                      Sigh….I will just keep trying!

HARE is still operating as far as I can tell. They have 6 rabbits listed for adoption on PetFinder, and they posted on April 13 on their Facebook page. From what I’ve heard, it’s not unusual for rescues to not even get back to people. Some are simply overwhelmed and don’t take the time to respond.

I don’t know if you might get a response from contacting them on Facebook or not. Maybe a different person monitors that account.

Couldn’t you drop them off in a box and put them in front of the door just before opening time but keep an eye on them from behind a tree to make sure that they are safe…. LOL LOL LOL

                          I know…. I wouldn’t do that either…..

I know there is a big rescue in Gainesville, but it is far from you.

There is a facebook page Ive seen that promotes rabbits in shelters to try raise awareness and get them into foster care or Rabbit Rescues. I post link to it here when I find it!
