        Hi All!

I’ve finally got my baby girl, and now I’m thinking about spaying. I know six months is about the right time, but I’m worried about her. She’s so trusting and perfect that I’m afraid the trauma of spaying will be terrible…Does anyone who went through this have any ideas of how I can make it easy on her.

If I hand her over to the vet, I feel like she might think I abandon her so I was wondering if the vet lets you hold her as they give her the anesthesia. That way she won’t really know what happened, cause I assume they are groggy after the surgery. I just want the whole thing to go easily for her…She’s so sweet…

        Thank you!

No, vets do not let you in the room while they prep for surgery or during surgery. Its not sanitary and can cause much more harm than good.

Spaying her should not make her distrust you She might be in pain for a few days, but you caring for her can make your bond stronger with her.

I adopted Luna when she was a little over 1 year old, but I put off spaying because I felt exactly how you feel. Plus, the thought of putting her through surgery was scary. But I knew spaying would be best for her health, so right before she turned 3 years old I had her spayed. She only shunned me for a day . The most important thing is to find a rabbit vet who regularly and successfully performs spays. I can’t stress that enough.

A vet that allows you to be in the room whilst the animal is anaesthetised wouldn’t be rated very highly by me, they have strict protocol and infection control to think about. But that doesn’t mean she will be traumatised without you there. I mean sure it’s not a walk in the park, she’ll likely be scared and very groggy afterwards. But it’s kind of a necessary evil so to speak. My doe gave me the stink eye for 2 days and then was back to herself.

Thank you all! I’ll definitely find a rabbit vet! I’m sure it will be fine
