( please excuse bad grammar hello fellow bunny lovers I recently joined binky bunny because I have a question about my rabbit willow!  Its a problem but I do not think it is big enough for the vet. ( have one I usually take my rabbit too) she usually sits in her litter box allot even when she is not pottying idk why but her but gets all brown and sticky. today which is may 1st I got a warm wet rag and wiped of her but. I also brushed some of her butt fluff but I noticed it was sticky and matted! I don’t think you are supposed to give bunnies baths because its not good for them but idk what else to do. Willow has never had a bath before and I do not want to stress her out. I am buying her a litter box that is scatter free so she does not have to sit in her poop but that’s not until June 4th. Do I just wait or act now? I want the best for her please help me

        Confused but hopeful, Libby Ellen

Is she pooping normally? Cause if she’s pooping normally but getting her butt dirtied by pee+poo that aren’t absorbed efficiently by the litter it’s just a matter of changing the litter material and cleaning her.
If she’s pooping wet and sticky poops, as Mikey said, a visit to the vet is a very good idea.

To clean her butt you can either place her in a shallow tray of lukewarm water, detangle her fur with your fingers and then dry her throughly or you can use a dry shampoo for animals. If the matting is very bad, a vet tech will be able to do it for you safely

Giving her a lot of hay litter until you get the filter tray will help as the urine will soak down away from the fur on her bottom.
And changing more regularly, or certainly removing hay which is wet.

My bun always used to dig out her litterbox, what a nightmare! Its really hard to teach them to not do this, since you can’t always be there to correct her. A good solution is the litterbox screen that they sell here on BinkyBunny. Works like a charm

You need a litter box with high sides like a storage container for example then they can dig but the hay will stay inside.
if you have a low sided cat litter tray, yup when they dig, it goes everywhere

my rabbit is doing great now her scatter free litter pan just came in Sunday and she took very well to it. Also, we gave her a bath in a tubaware of lukewarm water. We did not use soap but brushed her a lot. Most of the mats came out and she is looking great! thank you all for all your help, Libby Ellen
