Hi all! I’m new here, so hopefully this hasn’t been posted before and if it has, if I could be led to appropriate threads, that would be awesome.

I am currently in school for veterinary technology and I am adopting a couple rabbits from the program. They are mini rex males, born in November 2016 and not currently neutered. They live in separate enclosures, but are able to smell each other (there are 6 rabbits total). They cannot see each other, however. I am hoping to bond them after I neuter them in late May (they will be about 6 months).

Based on their birthdates and the fact that they are practically identical (one has a slightly lighter patch of fur on his forehead than the other, and that’s it), I assume they are from the same litter. They also have similar personality as well. Both come up to seek human interaction and seem curious about the other rabbits when they are out for play time (they are not able to physically interact during this time and are very strictly supervised). They were “sat” next to each other (handlers sitting next to each other handling the rabbits) and weren’t too interested in each other, so I’m hoping that’s a good sign. They mostly just played with their toys and tried for their escape to freedom.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can prepare to bond them? Is there anything I should be aware of before I start?

Prebonding until about 2 months after they are neutered, and then you can start actual bonding. Prebonding consists of keeping cages a few inches apart so they can see and smell one another, but cannot physically touch. You can also swap litter boxes+toys+food and water bowls every night or morning.
