There’s been some research on pet owners’ personality traits: do they share certain qualities? In several studies it was found that cat people tend to be more introverted than dog people, and that dog people tend to be more conservative than cat people. See here for some of the studies and the news on popular science websites:

        https://www.mckendree.edu/academics…aluska.htm
        http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs…0.46.3.939
        https://www.scientificamerican.com/…bout-you1/

I’m curious as to the personality traits of bunny people. Is there a certain profile, something we often have in common?

One of the tests often used is the Big Five test, a test which measures personality traits on 5 scales:

        Extroversion
Emotional stability (often also called Neuroticism)
        Agreeableness
        Conscientiousness
Intellect/Imagination (often also called Openness to experience)

The scales go from low to average to high. Here’s a quick and free test: http://personality-testing.info/tests/IPIP-BFFM/

I’ve done the test and it says for me:
Extroversion: low (no surprises there )
        Emotional stability: average
        Agreeableness: average
        Conscientiousness: high
        Intellect/Imagination: high

        What do yours say?

Hehehe neuropsychologist here! this is just my field xD To be super duper precise, we should also discriminate between who only has rabbits (or had rabbit as first *wanted* pet before getting other animals) and who has other animals and if they have, what they have I guess? Then we should get people that don’t have animals… then I’d spend two days on data normalizing and analyzing and we’d have still nothing in our hands. But who cares!

          As for me:
          Extroversion: high
          Emotional stability: average
          Agreeableness: high
          Conscientiousness: low
          Intellect/Imagination: high

This naming of the big five is different than my education, which was openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism (OCEAN). Still interesting though, no matter how it’s named!

            Extroversion: average
            Emotional stability: high
            Agreeableness: high
            Conscientiousness: high
            Intellect/imagination: high

I’m not sure how to convert my results from percentile to low/average/high. The percentiles don’t line up, for one I’m 81% but for another I’m 52% and they’re almost at the same level on the scale, even though I would call 81% high and 52% average, on the scale, 52% is higher than the 81%

I feel like it shouldn’t be this confusing

No doubts about it I’m an introvert though.

The raw score color bars show your score based on the highest and lowest in that factor. The percentile shows the comparison to those who have taken the test. The higher percentage, the more people you’ve scored higher than.

Use the color bars to approximate your level. The percentile let’s you know how you compared to others!

Yes it is very interesting to see the poll develop as well. There seems to be a bit of a pattern (although n is still pretty small): low extrovertion and high conscientiousness really pop out.

Rabbits are of course delicate high-maintenance animals who thrive in a calm and orderly environment. You also need to plan a lot when you have rabbits: they’re a big time-investment. I can really see how high conscientiousness and low extrovertion match a rabbit’s needs. Maybe it really is: like owner, like pet.

Are you looking at the numbers in the last column though?  Don’t look at those! (See Wick’s post).

Conscientiousness is one that threw me with my own results. It’s a term I would associate with myself as it is something my school teachers would write about me in reports over the years. But reading the description it says “Low scorers are impulsive and disorganized”  I would say that these days, I am messy and disorganised! Not in the workplace, but at home, certainly.   I think the bar result for that was “average” for me.

I saw this pic yesterday and it reminded me of this thread. It gave me a chuckle.

It was from a series of humorous photos from the recent March for Science.

I need someone to explain the “Where’s Kendall?” one to me…

Interesting how “intellect” and “imagination” are grouped together… some extremely intellectual people I know have absolutely no imagination whatsoever.

The maker of this test decided to drop the usual name of this category, because he thought it didn’t cover the subject. It is normally called: openness to experience. In this test it was changed to intellect and/or imagination. They show how eager you are to delve into difficult subjects, or if you enjoy letting your imagination work to create art or new ideas.

People who score low are more likely to be very down-to-earth, and prefer practical matters over daydreaming. They also tend to be traditional and prefer a no-nonsense lifestyle.

Hmmm, I would score high on the imagination scale but am very (too much?) down to earth and logical Captain (Spock! )

In fact, “above average” in all above categories which would probably equal a very confused, unbalanced and off the scale weird personality !

Yes, the data sure seem to suggest that, but because I only asked on this website I can’t extrapolate if it’s just the people who hang out online to talk about rabbits, or the general population of rabbit owners. I suspect there may be a difference between adults who actively chose a rabbit as a companion, and an adult who just bought one for the kids.
