        Hello,

Ken needs a little help here~ He’s a male Netherland dwarf and almost 3 years old now, not neutered if that helps.

So 2 days ago I noticed that he peed outside of his litter box and there’s some poop pellets here and there. It was kind of loud because it was like a splash on the carpet. I went to check what was going on and saw his bottom was pink/reddish and i don’t recall seeing his butt like that, or it had been like that for a while but i didn’t noticed.

Since then he’s been dropping some poops wherever he stayed, and he still pooped in the box when he was eating hay. All other behaviors seemed pretty normal. I’ve included a picture of his butt and his poop. He’s poop is kind of wet to the touch but not soft in any way.

I don’t think it is marking because he’s been free ranging in my room for about 6 months.

Can anyone identify if anything is abnormal? I want to hear some opinions before I go to the vet since it can get quite expensive and I’m a student .  is there anything I can do to help?

The upper pinkish part is the penis and the lower part is the anus I think.

He is incredibly swollen and raw. I really think you need to see a vet

In my experience, he shouldn’t be protruding like that. Please see a vet. (((Ken)))

Oh yes, he needs to be seen. The whole genital area looks swollen.
Do you have a regular vet that sees rabbits? If not, phone around to find one that also offers payment plans, in case the consultation and any treatment is more then you are expecting.

ETA: On the upside, his poops look great, so no worries there.

I agree that it is very swollen and must be quite sore for him.

Will be interested to hear what the vet thinks about the cause of it.

This is similar to what Dorothy had going on, though slightly less swollen and not red. A quick check from a vet tech from a bunny shelter said it was normal. But I agree with everyone else on here, particularly because it looks red and irritated in that picture – better safe than sorry, and let us know what the vet says!

Thanks for all your help! I took him to see the vet today and the conclusion was bacteria infection in the general area around the penis and the anus. He was given some Baytril and Metacam and hopefully the swollen will go down in 3-4 days..
