        Hello there,
I’m looking into how to grow bunny grass for my rabbit. Is there any kind of grass to stay away from or a starter kit anyone has tried? Is it the same as cat grass? I’ve never tried it before, I didn’t know if I could just go to Petco or if it had to be special kind.
        Thank you everyone! ?

I looked into the topic as well, I have a plan and basically I’m going to get some wheatgrass and take some plastic rain gutters and cut them to make four waterfall angles I’ll place germaniated wheatgrass about 2-3 days apart in each level and water from the top collecting water at the bottom using a bucket there I can slide the grass out with no soil and cut it into chunks and feed it to bandit.

Cat grass is often avena sativa, which is the Latin name for oats. Perfectly fine for bunnies. Pet stores sometimes have kits with seeds and sth like sawdust as a growing medium, you only pour water on it.

I’ve successfully grown wheat grass and oat grass for my buns. Sometimes you can find fescue seeds or timothy in small packs.

There’s also pet grass, which commonly here is Dactylitis glomerata (which is orchard grass). I have two tufts of orchard grass out in my garden bed that I pick from a couple of times a week.

Inside I’ve tried growing wheatgrass, I like it, it turns out nice and it makes a nice treat for the bunnies, but I need better drainage and air flow for my system because mould is an issue for me after about 5-7 days (a common problem that you need to be wary of). I gave up after about 4 batches in a row went mouldy. I need to reconfigure.

For pet grass/cat grass, you can usually get the seeds at a garden centre which would be cheaper than buying them from a pet store or just buying a single plant. Wheatgrass however is by far the cheapest option. I bought a 5kg bag of wheat for less than $10 from a fodder store and I sprout that.

I get the smallest (5lb) bag of mixed pasture seed and grow it in containers.

I accidentally grew oat grass at my house. I was using my extra oat hay as a cover for my garden and a few weeks later it sprouted. I now have a full garden full of 3ft tall oat hay. I cut it off and feed it to them and when they are in the garden, they love it.
