My bunnies (especially Bonny) love to dig. Bonny digs in her spare litterbox currently, but I’d like to get something like a little sandbox. Is that safe? If not, is there a good alternative? Maybe a box with some cardboard or grass shavings or just hay? Anyone have suggestions?

I scrapped sand and soil from my dig list because of the absolute mess they produced. I bought one of those cat scratch thingies made of strips of cardboard lined up horizontally, it makes a very good digging spot!
Otherwise, if you can find some safe paper you can fill them a box with that, hay, hidden treats and chew toys and look at them make a mess

That’s a good idea! I’ll try that! Thanks!

Sand boxes are a great way to enrich a bun’s habitat if you can do it. If a bun is a little messy, sand can easily be vacuumed up. If they are particularly messy, you could get a tub with higher sides or just take it away, but I would certainly recommend trying it as it’s so much fun for them to dig in, roll in, and flop in!

Not sure if I’m allowed to post videos, but here is my Toki at work in his sand box As you can see he doesn’t flick it everywhere. He also likes to flop and roll in it.

Toki digging is so cute! I would love to try that but my bun would fling sand everywhere, she really gets her back legs flicks into the digging

I filled a plastic tub with shredded paper for digging, she seemed to enjoy that a lot!
