Typically Eli’s tooth purrs are pretty soft. Today I noticed that he was hunched/loafed with his eyes half closed and then fully closed. He was tooth grinding so much louder than normal. I have heard that when rabbits grind their teeth in pain that it sounds like chewing rocks and that is what it sounded like! So far, today has been a normal day. He ate breakfast and has been eating hay all day and pooping normally all day.

When he started this, I went to get a treat to see if he would take it. Immediately, he ran over and did his “treat dance” and ate it happily. He has also been stretching out and flopping happily all day and his belly feels normal(ish). He’s been a little gassy lately but nothing major.

Does a content tooth purr ever get really loud and ‘crunchy’ sounding?? I have never heard him tooth purr like that.

A content tooth purr can be loud. Bam does those. He starts out soft and then it escalates into a choppy noise that can be heard from across the room. This mostly happens when my mother is visiting and he gets to sit in her lap.

A bunny that is tooth-grinding from pain is not a bunny that happily comes running for a treat and gladly eats it.

My bunnies sometimes grind their teeth loudly but based on other body language indicators and behaviour, they aren’t in pain (they come running for their favourite treat like yours, I test them when I hear it sometimes lol)

              Thank you
I figured he was fine but since it was new, I wanted to check and see if I was missing something! Since he was in a loafed position with his eyes closed AND loudly grinding I wanted to double check. I think he was just chillin out though.

Since he loves his treats, my first thought is always to test and see if he will come running. Works like a charm!
Now, he is munchin’ on his pellets.

              Thanks again!!!
