Background info : He got neutered about 2.5 weeks ago.

My bun has recently been aggressive with his hay feeder. He would nudge and shake it and have all the hay fall out. I don’t know if this aggression is due to his hormones post neuter. Could there be any other reason why he is doing this?

Might be frustrated he can’t get into the hay that he wants. If the bars are too tight he might not be able to fit his face and teeth through, it’s like having a really tasty spaghetti but only being able to take one noodle at a time.

I agree that it’s probably frustration. My bunnies never cared for hay racks.

What do you suggest using instead? I’m open to trying new hay dispensers!

I love that analogy. Do you have any feeders you recommend using instead? I think you’re right about the tight bars, he does seem to be squeezing his mouth through it

I just put it directly at one end of their litter trays. They eat tons that way!

For your current hay dispenser, I assume it’s the usual they sell at pet stores (rectangular, open top, slanted shape). To get the most hay sticking out as possible, it helps to place the hay in perpendicular to the way it seems you should (not lengthwise, but width wise). When I put hay in, I stick one side in then thread it out the “rabbit eating” side, then push the other end down. I do this and can usually fit 3 bundles across on the bottom row, and another row on top of that. It may require you to cut your hay a bit, depending on how long it is.

I agree, either frustration or boredom (or both).

I use a toilet-paper roll holder as my hay rack, which has nice large holes in it, similar to this one (the spaces are too small for their heads to fit through): http://static.bolderhomedecor.com/images/product/2016/1206/free-standing-toilet-paper-holder-for-bathroom-1.jpg

You can also give him some toilet paper tubes stuffed with hay to get his urge to toss and shake things out of his system.
