We are planning a trip for the summer to be gone about 5-7 days. I can’t take Shadow with me so I will have a friend come over and give him food, water, etc but he will not be taken out of his cage. Is this bad that he won’t be out of his cage for 5-7 days? Also I go camping a lot in the summer for just a weekend Friday-Sunday would he be fine not being fed on Saturday? I would give him extra food on Friday night and give him food when I come home Sunday afternoon.

Do you have an x-pen that you could attach to Shadow’s cage, so that he could get a little exercise when your friend comes over each day? I can see where your friend might not want Shadow running loose for fear of not being able to get him back in his cage before she leaves, but it should be pretty easy to let him run around the x-pen for a little while, then get him back in the cage with food.

Leaving a rabbit alone from Friday night until Sunday isn’t great. Rabbits can go into GI stasis or somehow injure themselves or have any kind of medical problem that needs to be addressed quickly. If Shadow started feeling bad shortly after you left, he could be in a bad way by the time you returned, almost 2 days later.  You should definitely have someone check on him on Saturday, and they could give him fresh greens then.

I do have a pen but it’s only 24in high so if he tried he could probably jump it and my friends are not experienced rabbit owners so I don’t think they would no what to do they might even freak out. I always camp close to my house,15-45 min away so I can come back Saturday to check on him.if I went any farther then 45min away I will get someone to come over and feed him and check on him.

Even if you have a short xpen you can also try this and place a large heavy towel and blankets over the xpen and clip them with heavy duty clothesline pins or zip ties. your bunny will think he cant jump up there or over just make sure your sitter knows to re secure the pen if she has to go inside.

as for a bunny sitter make sure she comes at least once a day or twice preferably once in the morning and once before evening so they can get eyes on and make sure they have water and hay, ESPECIALLY WATER and ensure they place some over old poops and pees or whatever litter you use.

Quite simply, no and no. It is NOT okay to keep your bun cooped up in a cage for a week   Especially your cage as it is tiny (from previous threads) As for not being fed on Saturdays? That is unacceptable.
