Hi, I got a new rabbit yesterday and the vet isn’t open, and I’m super worried because he keeps grinding his teeth and sometimes I see something that literally looks like(?:s) his heart thumping out of his back, and then his head will start pulsating like that too. It’s very odd and concerning. It might be because he’s still scared for normal reasons but I’ll mention he also hasn’t explored out of his carrier. He also sleeps a lot but that might be normal for a baby..? What could be going on here?

Young bunnies can grind their teeth when they are relaxing. Has he eaten or drunk anything since he came home with you?

Yes, it can also be a sign of pain. Is he breathing heavily (panting, like)? Sometimes they breathe so their whole bodies move.

I don’t know how to upload a video, but if you told me I could try to (if he starts doing it again and I get a video) and yes he’s eating and pooping. Also, I tried to stroke him a little because I couldn’t resist and he squaled, don’t know if that’s fear or pain

Squealing is rather odd, it’s not sth a bunny should do really.

If he’s eating and drinking and pooping I think he’d be ok to wait until the vet opens and you can call for advice. Is his poop looking good? (Runny diarrhea requires immediate vet attention).

Could he be completely overwhelmed with his new environment? If this is some sort of “sensory overload” it would explain why he hasn’t ventured out of his carrier.

The easiest way to upload a video would be to do it to Flickr or Google Drive or some such external source, and then paste the link to the video here.

No diarrhea, and he made a high pitched noise, maybe it was a scream if he starts pulsating again I’ll try to post a video, I really hope he didn’t get injured in the car ride or something

Is it long until your vet opens?

A high pitched noise makes me think he’s very scared. But since he’s eating, drinking and pooping it doesn’t seem like there’s an absolute emergency.

Keep us posted. I’m going to bed now, but other people will be online. Many good wishes for your little bun!

Just a thought, does he have sth soft he can cuddle up to in the carrier? Like a bundled up fleece blanket? Something soft like that could perhaps be comforting for him to snuggle up to.
