ok so i know rabbits eat special poop called cecotropes that the only poop at night, but today i noticed that both poppy and cedric are eating their normal poop. also after eating the poop poppy seemed a little bloated and gassy so i gave her the baby gas relief drops that i have in my care kit. cedric seems fine. so is poppy feeling bloated completely unrelated or is it due to eating normal poop. both rabbits have been acting a little off today, like poppy usually loves to be held and snuggle with me today she won’t have it. also cedric and her keep trying to dig at the same place in the garden where they have their outside run. anyone’s help is welcome

Do you see them actually go up and eat normal poop, or do they just eat it directly and you assume based on time of day? Wick eats his poo early morning and night, not exclusively at night. Also sometimes he’ll eat it and two normal will drop out of his mouth. Not sure the exact production of cecotropes, but Wick’s pipe seems to pump out both throughout the day.

Wick occasionally nibbles his regular poop to examine if it’s edible as well. In both scenarios, I haven’t noticed any particular gassiness.

Did you feed them anything new or unusual? for example veggies of the cauliflower kind that might create gas.
Anyways it can be that sometimes they munch on normal poop and then they leave it there, I’ve seen mine do it a lot of times

Buns eat poop to maintain a good intestinal flora, so it can be they need to balance things down there? Do call the vet and ask if it would be of help to give them some active ferments. As long as they’re eating, drinking and producing poops normally, it shouldn’t be an emercency

Eating regular poop is normal. It happens a lot more than people think. I think the gas thing is unrelated.

I agree that its likely unrelated. I catch my bunnies eating normal poop once or twice a month, usually. Its never caused any problems

I also want to add that cecals are not always night time only. They can pass mornings, evenings, and in the daytime too. It depends on the rabbit, and probly their diet and activity levels

I agree – I don’t see cecals often but when I do see them, it’s during the day.
