Right now I cover the base of my bunnys cage with bedding but it’s pretty expensive since I have to clean it every week since he’s not litter trained. I was wondering if I could use fleece. The only fleece I can find is for a size queen bed so I would have to cut it. But I thought if I cut it the ends it would fray and he would chew on it. I found some polyester is that safe of is it better to use fleece. My bunny is a chewer so far so will he chew on the fleece? Does fleece have ends that he can chew of? Will the fleece soak up pee if he pees on it of do I have to put towels under it?

Do you recommend useing fleece or bedding?

I would recommend fleece because it is more worth the cost also you can fold the fleece to make it more absorbent (that will also solve the fraying problem)

Warning: if your bunny chews a lot than fleece may not be the best choice as if the rabbit ingests too much it can make them very sick

Thanks. Iwill probably invest in some fleece and see if he chews it. It’s a lot cheaper then buying bedding.

You could forgo bedding completely and just use litter stuff (carefresh for example) in the litter tray.

Right now I use paper based pellet cat litter and carefresh all over his cage. If I dont put any bedding down would it hurt his feet?

Is it a solid base? If so, nope it won’t hurt their feet

It depends on the flooring. However he will be very difficult to litter train if there is litter and bedding all over the cage in addition to in the tray. You only want the litter and carefresh in the litter tray, it will be fine to put fleece down. Just keep an eye for chewing. The cage bottom bare may be ok as long as it isn’t too slippery.

If you use fleece as the bottom you should find it easier to litter train – they get confused by bedding and litter in the cage and not being allowed to pee on it …. if you just put bedding or litter ( or pine pellets I find best) into a litter tray in one corner and a fleece blanket over the rest of cage base that should make litter training easy as the uncle are naturally clean animals

I’ve got an English Angora so I can’t use anything like Carefresh since he’d be literally covered it in. In his upstairs boudoir in his hutch he has a fabulous fleece baby pram liner. It was super cheap and I can wash and dry in machine (since he does very occasionally pee on it). But for a baby bunny (only 10 weeks old), he’s surprisingly good at peeing in his litter tray (in his hutch). As opposed to his indoor pen where he sometimes chooses to use his litter tray and then uses his bed at other times. Cheeky monkey!
