I tried rubbing ivory soap on my baseboards to stop my 3-month-old holland lop, Fiona, from chewing them. I found out that she enjoys the taste of ivory soap and will purposely eat it. Is this bad for her? She isn’t ingesting a lot because I usually stop her in the act, but she still eats it.

I have also heard to try grapefruit seed extract, but can’t find it anywhere…

Bunnies have weird tastes. Apple bitter spray is considered a treat for my bunny. Best thin you can do are plastic corner guards which I’ll will be doing

While I don’t think a small amount of soap is poisonous, I wouldn’t encourage her to eat it! I would keep an eye on her and make sure her poops are normal for the next 12-24 hours. Rabbits are certainly weird, mine loved the lemon spray I used to try to deter chewing. You can stop her from chewing while you are there but in the end I think it’s best to block off the baseboards rather than use nasty tastes to stop her.

Plastic corner guards are a good choice. I use 2x4s to cover my baseboards, not the most elegant solution but they are cheap and easy to cut to size!

Ivory soap isn’t toxic, that’s why you can use it to deter buns -if the bun decides ivory soap is rather tasty, she won’t be poisoned by it. It’s useless as a deterrent in your case though, as you’ve probably figured out.

Plastic corner guards are good. In this thread our member Krayl has made baseboard protection from hardware cloth

In case you’re a DIY type of person.
My dog loved the taste of the vinegar that I tried to use to keep her from gnawing at furniture when she was a pup. Pets can do very unexpected things
