I did a big veggie shop at the market this morning, and thought to myself that I should compile this same stuff at the supermarket and compare the price (which I haven’t done yet). That got me wondering how much people around the world spend on their veggies. So I thought I could turn it into a fun game where you guess how much I spent on all of this fruit and veg (itemised list below the photo). Keeping in mind I spend in Australian dollars

While we may look like healthy eaters, truth be told, 80% of this is for Dory (it’s parrot chop making week), then about 15% for the bunnies, and 5% for the humans

        In approximate top to bottom, left to right, we have;

Kale (1 bunch), coriander (1 bunch), fennel, radishes (1 bunch), romaine lettuce (1 head), silverbeet (1 bunch)

Apples (3), carrots (1 bag 1kg), tomatoes (2), button squash (1), kiwi fruit (3), continental cucumber (1), zucchini (1), snow peas (1 bag)

Bananas (5), butternut squash (1/2), corn (4 cobs), red capsicum (4 small), sweet potato (1).

I also bought 2 brown onions which I forgot in the bag for the photo.

Guess away!! Once there’s been a fair amount of guesses, I’ll tell you how much I spent (and try to remember how much each individual thing cost). When I’m at the supermarket next week I’ll take the list with me and compare prices there as well

I will estimate about 65 dollars in Australia which is about 50 dollars American.
          Ha ha!
My husband says 34 American dollars which is 45 dollars Australian ?

I would guess about 20 euro, so €28 dollars?

35 euros if you’d bought it here. That’s like 50 Aussie dollars.

Im not sure how much at market but for the supermarket, it would be around $58. I looked up the items online for one of our popular supermarkets here.
                    Maybe $45 at markets??

I don’t know but I want to raid your fridge

In England from Morrisons (supermarket where I shop) I would estimate that to have cost around £30.

I’m in America on the west coast. We’ve got great agriculture and local produce here so I’d estimate it to be about $30-$40 depending on where you shop. Farmers markets are big here and you can get great deals on veggies and fruit during the spring and summer.

Yeah but yeah but…. i know some fruit like bananas can be reeeeeeally expensive in oz (or was that a few years ago? Or just in Sydney? ….. although im guessing you wouldnt have bought five if they were. So i think its a tricky one. I would follow Jersey’s lead !!!!

lol, several years ago there was a cyclone (i think, or flooding, or both) that destroyed most of the banana crops so they went up to around $20+ /kg. They’re fine now

Oh well then….. I’ll reduce my guess from 46,32 AUD down to 44,44 AUD.

Well, some of you were close… really only Tony’s mum  well done

All that food only cost me $29.70. If it had cost as much as some of your guesses, we would never be able to afford to feed ourselves or the pets. I’ll have to check the supermarket cost on Thursday.

Here’s where most of it went… 80 serves of parrot food. Minus one snow pea that I stole for myself Estimating that the parrot food came to about $20 of that total, that’s 0.25 cents per serving. $1.75 a week (just a breakfast serve daily). Budget pet  Apart from the toys

                                        Well done Tony’s Mum!

ETA: On a technicality, I think Q8’s estimate of $20AUD was closest as TM used Euro symbol.  Im guessing TM meant $28AUD.

Maybe the prize (a bag of parrot chop) could be split between them?
