My male has had some strange poops lately. He is a 11 week old giant Flemish. He was on some sort of feed from the breeder and he is starting his change into purina show pellets. He is only getting a 30 to 70 percent mix at the moment but he produced a few small misshaped kind of tiny pebbles and then he made about a one inch log shaped type of poop. When I opened it up it was very soft and didn’t show much hay at all. I’m very concerned for him. Is this normal? Do I need to switch his pellets immediately? I have no idea what they were eating. She said they only were eating that pellet because she ran out of the purina show so they have had the show before just not for a while. He is new to the house, he has been there since Monday after a 14 hour car ride so could it be stress?? He seems to make some normal droppings as well as the concerning ones I have just described.

He’s a big boy so he probably makes some big boy poops.

However as for the Purina I cannot vouch that they don’t use any additives. I use oxbow baby alfalfa pellets and bandit can’t get enough he eats them hearty and it directions say to offer them for a year unlimited along with alfalfa hay. I watch his weight using a scale so if he approaches anything concerning(he’s 2.8 lbs) Ill trade it with timothy and orchard until i can keep his weight healthy

Oxbow pellets were my original choice and then I was told by my breeder that they wouldn’t be sufficient for a growing Flemish. I don’t know if this is accurate or not. Do you think it’s his pellets causing the mushiness??

Maybe, oxbow is proabbly if not definately one of the best pellets for any bunny regardless of breed. The reason I always regiment oxbow is because they are a responsible company and always ensure the quality control is at obsessive levels of detail. There was another user here that had an odd peice of grass in his hay and within hours they emailed him back for every peice of information about that bag and called the contractor and confirmed that it was ok.

Oxbow young rabbit pellets are great for babies over 6-7 weeks cause they are calcium fortified and alfalfa based which helps bunnies bones and bodies grow well which is definitely important for a extra large breed like your Flemish baby.

Any and all changes to a bun’s diet can result in intermittent poop weirdness. With a young growing bun, intermittent poop irregularities are more or less par for the course. There’s also the new home and the long car ride – things like that affect the tummy.

Don’t make any radical changes, just keep tapering out the breeder’s pellets like you are doing. Give him hay, both alfalfa and grass hay. Serve water in a bowl instead of in a bottle, they tend to drink more from a bowl.

Is he acting normal? Appetite good, activity level good etc?

Yes he is acting normally, eating lots. He has both a bottle and bowl of water at all times. His poops are looking more solid as of right now but I may consider slowly weaning him to oxbow baby pellets instead of purina show.
