I was doing some things while bandit was sleeping today and he snuck up behind me and I moved my heel back and bumped him on the eye with my sock covered foot heel. He recoiled and flicked three times and ran for cover and I tried to console him. He came out andni noticed he had watery eye on his left side and I feel super bad it wasn’t a hard tap but it was just a gentle movement bump.

Regardless I took some pictures and called the vet to see if it’s something major and the nurse told me to come in tomarrow to check to be sure. The eyelid looks a bid red and just irritated but no swelling and when he moved around in a small play session from his big nap, he looked fine and was hopping aroud and eating. I notice a small squint but he keeps his eye open mainly i tried rubbing it gently with a lukewarm wet towel to remove any eyelashes possibly stuck im just worried about the discoloration if his fur and i feel like a horrible dad.

Pictures are in the signature in the Medical Images folder.

You could try holding a warm compress on the eye (gentle pressure) as most rabbits like that if they have some discomfort. If he’s resistant, just leave it be and have vets check it out.
You can use a warm, wet cloth or even a teabag. Chamomile if you have it but a regular one would probably be fine also.

p.s.I couldn’t find any photos, sorry.

Oops. Sorry. I went to the BinkyBunny Profile, not the link in your Siggy. Seen the pics now. The patch in the centre of eye is just a reflection isn’t it?
I think the area under the eye with the fur would just be from when the eye watered initially. It should return to normal. Is it still watery?

They may do a dye stain test at the vet just to see if there was any scratch on the outer surface of the eye.

Yeah that’s just the wetness. I was just about to do am update and he seems ok?? He’s binkying and coming for pets and it doesn’t look too bad now either or I’m still going to go to the vet to be sure regardless of how small it seems. There’s no more water under the eyes and the redness was from the flash to try and illuminate his super lusty dark fur.

He’s loafing on a giant Chattanooga cold pack in a pillow case and his eyes have been open no squinting so I think he’s ok maybe.

Update, I guess i was wrong he was grooming himself and he turned his head and had a large white opaque goop over the corner of his eye I fear he has trauma and that’s what most of the net is saying

I agree with the warm compress if he allows. Meki had a pretty serious eye injury last summer (that we still can’t figure out), and her eye was swollen, red, and had white goops that I had to clean out CONSTANTLY. What helped her most at that time (besides all the meds) was keeping the eye clean of the goop and a warm compress. Try to keep the compress clean, and don’t re-infect his eye with a used goop-cleaning rag. The vet will be able to tell you more.

Keep watch on him tonight to make sure it doesn’t progress further into something worse. In Meki’s mysterious circumstances, her eye simply looked closed, but by trying to open it I found it was red and swollen.

Thanks for the info. I own a havana as well so it’s comforting to know Its not me just being bad for some reason or doing something wrong. He ley me rub his eye with a warm rag while I groomed him tonight and got a good tennis ball size of undercoat. I felt bad cause he just ‘submitted’ to being groomed and didn’t resist like he normally does.

If I have any questions I’ll definitely message you since you have had havannas before and know what to look for as most have lops or lionheads.

I don’t have any advice but try not to feel guilty. Bunnies are great at running around our feet. I swear they have a sensor for where your foot is going next and then an undeniable desire to get there first.

I agree with sarahthegemini. Wick has been kicked, and a few times literally launched against a door/wall. He comes out like a champ, but gosh is he bad at running calmly along side people….

Wick’s eyelids are sometimes red as well. This comes from his grooming and also from me getting eye boogers out at times. Wick’s surrounding eye fur also looks that way when there’s a longer duration of grooming/eye boogers bothering him. It always comes back though, so as long as it’s not persistent, I think his glorious left eye will look a-okay following any treatment your vet may recommend.

Additionally, don’t feel bad about Bandit “submitting” to getting groomed — I think rabbits know when you’re trying to help them. Wick lets me literally (full meaning of the word) go up and pick his nose to get out snot and nasal discharge (I use a q-tip that I twirl to have a narrow end). He just sits there and takes it while I invade his nostrils… When he’s sounding really stuffy and I hear it, I go over and set him in the usual position and he submits to the small gold excavation happily, haha. I’m sure Bandit knows you were helping him

Of course, definitely message me if you have any questions. Havanas are the most stuck up, “I don’t need your help” kind of bunnies I’ve ever met (or maybe that’s just mine…. lol). I can’t offer any solid medical advice, but I can compare it to what I went through. Here’s the thread I kept of Meki’s injury incase it helps any: Eye Injury + Healing. The pictures are slow loading and it may help to “open in new tab”. They’re pretty gross at first, too.
If anything, the white goop you were seeing is a sign of healing, as gross and terrifying as it looks. It’s the body’s way of flushing out irritants or infections.

How’s Bandit doing today? Any improvement? Or have you taken him to the vet?

I can agree with the stuckup, my 3 month teen is very feisty and he scratched me hard during treats today so I’ve decided to not give him treats for awhile after telling him no.

I went to the vet and she told me that he looks relatively ok it might just have been a small impact shock and his eye was just protecting himself. He’s not as binky as before since I had to drag him to the vet at 1130am (nap time) but I hope he’ll get over it as I’m giving him tons of space.

He is still tearing a bit on his left eye and I changed his hay rack to be safe as I think it was poking him maybe so I bent a nic grid over his corner litterbox and he seems to like it. I’m good g to allow him to free roam tonight and see if anything changes.
