I just got my ten month old bun neutered, and it went well ( the reason why it was so late is because he was too small for the procedure at first), but he still doesn’t use his litterbox that well. i read a lot about once you get them fixed they almost entirely potty train themselves. he was impossible to train before hand so i kind of gave up and just kept cleaning up after him until he could get fixed. He has gotten a lot better but its still not where i would want it to be, he has a big litterbox that he uses like 70% of the time, and the rest he just goes within three feet around it. and it’s hard because i have carpet and pee on carpet is never an easy thing to clean up. I’ve given it time and just been putting the poops back in the litterbox and cleaning the pee with vinegar to get rid of the smell but he doesn’t seem to be learning from it? i have no other bunnies either so he shouldn’t be territorial. I really don’t know what to do, would a low entry litterbox really change that much? any ideas would be much appreciated thanks

Are you moving him to the litter box directly following an accident? It’s also helpful tot catch rabbits right before they pee, which I know is difficult, but that helped with Wick a ton. I’ve mastered his “I’m about to pee” stance and behavior, so when I see it happening not in the litter box, I immediately stand up and coax him to go there before peeing. Before this, I’d literally pick him up and plop him in there. Once he’d pee, I’d pet him as a praise. Same with pooping (relocating him to litterbox). A lot of times, he’d jump out of the litterbox, then poop outside of it, so I just plop him right back in. He doesn’t get half-credits, haha.

If you very recently got him neutered, he is still dealing with fluctuating hormone levels. It may take a month or more for the hormones to level out, so you might have more success in a few weeks. Since he is small, it may be that a litter box with a low entry side would be more enticing to him. But that might not make any difference at all. Some bunnies are better at using litter boxes than others. My rabbits sometimes pee and poop in front of or beside the litter box, which is why I keep a towel underneath it.

Alright, thank you that sounds like good advice, im gonna try to watch and catch him going on the outside. also i just got a low entry litterbox and tried to maybe keep it cleaner with less litter to see if that helps his preference. it has been just two weeks so maybe im being impatient lol
