So out of curiosity I called the yellowbook company (now known as hibu) since 8ve seen bandit love attacking the phone book but I was worried about the paper and the glue thinking it might not be rabbit safe (like the glossy front cover). After speaking with the health and environmental manager about the various safety questions I got these answers:

        1. The entire phonebook is soy ink treated including the cover.

        2. The glue used in the spine is vegetable based.

        3. All pages of the yellowbook are vegetable and recyclable paper. (Lots of good fiber and cellouse!)

        4. The ‘Glossy’ front page is not treated any differently than the rest of the book, what makes the page Glossy is a superheated finishing iron roller that smoothes the page after the ink is applied to prevent accidental water damage. If the cover is exposed to water for 10-15 seconds the paper ‘rehydrates'(like a freeze dried fruit) and turns as normal as the rest of the book.

        5. This standard is applied to all yellowpage ‘yellowbooks’ that have the 2015-2017 Hibu logo on each of the page and the Hibu logo on the back. *Note* BOOKS THAT DO NOT HAVE THE LISTED LOGO WITH THE YEAR ON THE PAGES DO NOT FOLLOW THIS STANDARD.

All the information can be found here except for the glossy front which not many people ask about but he said he would ask if it can be added to the site later to reassure people that the cover is as green as the whole book.

Link to their safety page is here:

Thank you for sharing your findings!
Bunnies do love phone books, and I hadn’t personally researched this, so I’m glad to learn that our favorite phonebooks are both bunny and environment friendly.
