We have had Bun Bun for 1 1/2 weeks now. We also have cats so I have kept them separate with a pen; Bun Bun’s cage and pen are close to my office so I just move it so she can come into my office when I am working so she has a room to run around in. She loves to race around behind my desks. Well this morning, I let her out of the cage, with the pen around it as usual. I go get my daughter ready for school, and walk around the corner, and there is Bun Bun sitting in the middle of the room. She just hops right passed a cat, who just stares at her. So I get her back in her cage until I get back from taking my daughter to school, let her out and watch to see how she escaped the pen. She puts her nose under the spot where they connect and lifts it up and down until it comes undone, then she hops on out to freedom. So freedom she got, the cats just run from her or try to sniff her butt whens he isn’t looking. Bun Bun just hops around like she owns the place. So much for slowly introducing them.

Bun Bun is almost 4 months old, still working on litter box training but she isn’t spayed yet since she isn’t old enough. But she is one smart bunny!

Sounds like your bunnies smart! Use zip ties to prevent this action in a cross pattern

Smart, indeed! Rabbits are crafty little buggers. But she is a cutie.

As mentioned, zip ties will help. If you need something that can be easily removed I use binder clips (the kind you use to keep a stack of papers together). They’re cheap and hold really well but can be adjusted as needed, too.

Thanks, I might try the clips as I want to be able to move the pen open easily. I don’t mind her roaming free when I am here to watch her; I am a SAHM with a small business so I am here most of the day. But when I go pick up my daughter from school or take her to her therapy session or horse lessons, I want her safe and blocked off.

Well, she is at it again. The pen has been clipped and she has been staying in there fine at night; so she had more room to move around and not just stuck in the cage. Well I put her up earlier, went outside for a bit, came back upstairs, and there she was, laying in the middle of the room. I was like “How did you get out?”. The pen was still clipped, though moved, but not opened. So I put her back in the pen, she then proceeds to jump on top of her wire cage and over the pen to freedom. I think I need a new place for her to stay at night and when I am not home, one that is Bun Bun proof. Ha ha!

You can use a blanket or towel with some binder clips on the top over her cage to prevent jumping too
