I’m asking since Meki loves chewing on willow and apple sticks, and we’re planting raspberries this spring. With raspberries, you trim back the woody stalks to allow new growth and a better harvest. Gardening sights warn that wild rabbits will go nuts for raspberry stalks in the winter, but I’m wondering if my rabbit would enjoy chewing on the woody stalks I cut back next spring?

My concern would be if the old stems had been attacked by fungus. I know the stems (canes) you mean, it’s those that carried fruit last season. I’d try with canes that look and feel dry and hard/brittle.

Raspberry is quite ok for buns, but I’ve only ever tried feeding the leaves and young branches (raspberry has a tendency to spread so you get lots and lots of it after a few years) and obviously the berries.

A friend of mine was cutting back raspberry bushes and I gave my buns the leaves and stalks to try – well, they nearly bit my hand off getting a nibble of it !!!
It went down very well !!

Thanks for the info! Since we’re just planting some bare-root plants this year, it won’t be until next year, but I’ll be looking for any signs of disease before giving them to Meki! Also worth noting for info’s sake: of course we plan to NOT use any bug or weed killers on these plants.

You’ll get leaves this year, you can nip off a little bit and give to Meki as a treat. Raspberry leaves are as a rule much appreciated by our lagamorph friends
