Hello everyone! About half a year ago, I found a domesticated rabbit in the front yard. We kept them for a few days and found them a loving home to go to (couldn’t keep it since I have a bun of my own). Just today I found another, but I really can’t tell if it’s wild or domesticated. It didn’t run or book it as soon as it saw me, just sort of skipped away a few times until it warmed up to me. They’re eating some of the food we gave them and drinking water too. But they’re small and brown/black and slender, with a white undertail, and I’m really confused. Does anyone know? Here are some pics.

If it’s wild, how do I go about releasing them?

        Thank you!

This looks like a domestic rabbit to me. It just has the chestnut agouti colouration of the wildies.
What region of the world are you posting from?

I’m from south Texas! We have a bit of wilderness out here and have seen coyotes, deers, and wild rabbits a few times, so it can get a little hard to differentiate between what’s wild and what’s domesticated! And I was browsing online and I thought it looked like this

lil guy here: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/0b/51/8b/0b518bf6d97930d206cae9677c62eca7.jpg, haha! Glad to know that’s not the case, altho it would def be more relieving to hear more assurance.

It doesn’t look like the cottontails you have there. Ears too big, limbs not as slender from what I can see. Eyes not as protruded.
This fb page has wonderful close ups of Cottontails. http://www.facebook.com/pg/Misterthebunny/photos/?ref=page_internal

I agree, certainly looks like a domestic rabbit to me. Very cute with those big ears. The only other option is a hare, but the head shape, eye colour and ears aren’t right for a hare either.

That does not look like an Eastern Cottontail, which is the wild rabbit we have here in South Carolina. It does look like a domestic rabbit to me. I don’t know if you might have different wild rabbits in Texas, though. If you can find a wildlife rehabber in your area, you could send the photos to them and have them determine if it’s wild or not.

If it’s domestic, it certainly needs to be rescued. There are several rabbit rescues in Texas. Hopefully one could take this rabbit. You can see them on the list here:
