So my two bunnies have really given me the run around with gender
Oakley is intersex , and Boston has everyone fooled ( two vets , me and great breeder I asked to check for me , and the petstore he was at ) to think boy but nope – now that he is 13weeks opinions are changing to girl!!!
He’s the cuddliest girl I have ever ever met though and completely had me fooled!

Guess I have some decisions to make now about whether to attempt to bond after desex. Oakley doesn’t like other bunnies so I’m not sure whether to try ….
also Boston was treated for suspected EC – not sure if I want to risk spores spreading to Oakley of Boston ever had a reoccurance (opinions?)

Next big decision though is … name!!
Boston will not cut it for a girl… I’m leaning towards Willow … ideas?
I’ll add a pic below – grown to be a lovely blue point

Lol! I’d be so confused with these genders!
My girl is a total cuddler as well, I don’t think there’s much of a gender personality thing.

I think Boston could work if you want, but it’s your decision. Maybe Hazel? I love Willow though (personally my rooting before you got Boston too lol)

I don’t really know about EC (no experience), but how did you find Oakley doesn’t like other rabbits? I think it could be great for both of them if it works out. My boy, who always was shy, timid, and anti social we thought wouldn’t like rabbits. When we got a second she was very social so we decided to try bonding for her benefit and he loves her.

(They’re not bonded yet and Winter’s focus is dominance, but he is all about grooming.)

Does this mean a UN change? If so I’d like to ask how you do that. Are you just creating a new account or changing the name?

No idea on the name change for account … I’ll have to find out

Yeah Im leaning willow but maybe something else someone mentions will jump out at me more

Oakley didn’t tolerate another bunny in same room once before – like extreme dislike , and that was seperate cages on opposite side of room. It was extremely stressful and he was a right state about it

He has coped with Boston so far in same room ( again seperate cages across the room ) however 2 days ago they had a stomping war which left both very stressed for about an hour

I don’t think it’s fair to say Oakley doesn’t like rabbits completely just because he didn’t like one particular bunny.

Hazel is a nice name, as is Willow.

You could always have Oakley tested for exposure to EC, then you’ll know if he has it or not. I’v heard that EC spores can become airborne, and that one should consider the whole house infected. I wonder the same thing about my bunnies. Since Guin’s first husbun was euthanized from EC, and Lancelot has it, I wonder if she is a healthy carrier. In which case – I wouldn’t want to bond her with my other pair when Lancelot passes on, coz I don’t want to infect them. But I don’t know if they are carriers themselves, I haven’t had them tested, and they do share a room with a divider fence.

Well obviously I’m not saying that he won’t like any bunny or I wouldn’t even consider bonding
But that experience was very intense – for him to not even cope with the other bunny on other side of the room and his behaviour was very very stressed for awhile after he was even gone . It wasn’t just “they didn’t bond” – we didn’t even get that far.
I have to take that into account as that is an important factor.
These aren’t my first bunnies either – I’ve had quite a few over the years so have something to compare it to and never experienced that bad of a reaction – I have only bonded once and it was love at first sight but I have had a few housed seperately before at same time and they didn’t care the others were there as they weeent in their space – Oakley however very much cared.

Vanessa I so would do that but that test isn’t available here
They just treat if there are symptoms and there is no test – I already tried to push for that but can’t as it isn’t out here

I’m not even convinced he had EC , his symptoms are explained otherways so I’m not convinced but I just today finished the 6 week course incase
The bonding side ( if ever – I’m still not sure ) wouldn’t be for a good 10 weeks away anyway as Boston first needs confirmed to be a girl ( another breeder just looked at the photos and said it may be a split boy so I’ll need to have him vet checked yet again ) then will be 8 weeks or so off being spayed anyway

So weird how these two have been so hard to get the genders of- all my past bunnies it was easy for me to tell !

Well, they are little, and it isn’t all that easy to tell with little ones. You have a while to decide if you want to bond them anyway, since they would first need to be neutered/spayed.
Yeah – we never really know if it was EC… Even with Lancelot, I call it EC, he gets treated for it, but honestly it would take an autopsy to confirm. Even his recent relapse – could have just been a typical lop ear infection. I won’t know.

I like the name Willow 🙂

Cute! Bostonetta! I learned in Latin language class that a name ending in “us” is masculine. The same name ending in “a” is feminine 🙂

Willow would be a lovely name for her, I agree. It’s a very pretty name and she’s so pretty it almost hurts to look at her =)

I honestly wouldn’t be worried about the possible EC. I mean, for all you know, Oakley has already been exposed elsewhere. It isn’t uncommon for bunnies to be infected and not show symptoms. The test is notorious for false negatives as well.

I do like Willow. Or Bostina. LOL

That is a real name, by the way. It’s a surname though. :p

What about something that’s gender neutral? Like Ash (tree).

I do like ash but think I’ll keep that for a future boy bunny as other half wants Asher for a future boy one

I’ve booked a vet appointment for Thursday as he needs vaccinated ( vet wouldn’t do it last visit as he was on ec meds )
We had a stand in rabbit savvy vet that last visit who said Boston was a boy – this time it’s Oakley’s usual vet so hopefully he will be great at knowing the gender
If he says girl we will rename her Willow
I’ve been looking into bunny gender on the net and I’m wondering if he is a boy but split … will see what vet thinks Thursday

Why don’t you keep the name Boston? When I first got Reese, we thought she was a boy until we went to get her fixed, and that is when we found out she was a girl. They offered to change her name, but Reese stuck with her. I think Boston is a perfect name for her, and matches her colors perfectly! Also, willow is a fairly common name, and I think Boston is a unique, pretty name!
