My bunny, Butterscotch Chai, is almost 3 months old and has finally got the litterbox figured out. Yeah! Now she has become very territorial and lunges at me constantly. At first it was just when I put her “dinner salad” in her hutch. When she would lunge I would tell her no and take the bowl away. After a few times she quit lunging. Well she has started doing it again at dinner and now it has progressed into anytime I put anything in or take anything out of her hutch. I took her litterbox out to clean it and she lunged and grabbed it. Didn’t think much of it till I started cleaning some stuff out of the hutch and moving things around and she lunged at my hand every time. Even putting her litterbox back in she lunged at me again. I sternly say “No!” when she does this but it doesn’t seem to phase her. Her nails are really sharp and she has even scratched me a couple times. I’ve tried talking to her before I do anything so she knows I’m there so it’s not like I’ve startled her. Why has she suddenly started doing this? What can I do to curbs this behavior? I know she’s still very young but I can’t have her doing this everytime I reach in her hutch. Help!

Hormones! Sadly, there isnt much you can do besides feed her outside of the cage, change her litter while she is out of sight, and clean the cage when she is out of sight. This will change within a few months after she is spayed, but you cannot get her spayed until she is about six months old

In her eyes you are invading her home. Try not to reach in and out of her hutch, change litter trays and whatnot when she’s out running.

You don’t have to wait till she’s much older for spaying, many are happy to spay at 4 months old but I suppose it depends on weight and overall health of the bun.
