So I have to go on vacation for a week (no choice my parents want me to go) but I’m worried about my rabbit. I’m going to have my friend come over every other day and feed him and give him water, and he’s got like a 70 square foot cage that he stays in so he can get some exercise, I usually let him out in my room but his cage is fine for a week. Just wondering if every other day is enough if I leave a bunch of hay that should last for a while and he just feeds veggies, pellets, and fills up the water.

He needs to be checked on and given fresh food and water every day. If your rabbit gets ill or hurt for whatever reason right after your friend visits, it could be too late by the time they return 2 days later. Once a day for me is a minimum, and if I’m leaving mine, I personally always get them checked on/fed twice a day.

Shew… i go on travel quite a bit and ihave my animals checked on twice a day. U dont want stray poops in their water for 2 days. I have my rabbits water changed every day, fresh hay daily, portioned pellets twice a day, stray poops cleaned up, and litter boxes changed every second day. I leave precise instructions about the litterboxes – amount of wood pellets per bix, amount of hay per bix, etc. rabbits are messy creatures. I would not be comfortable with less than twice a day.

I agree, once a day should be the minimum.

I  went on a day trip recently and was only gone for about 8 hours and I got my mum to do a midday check on my terrible two  Anyway, no every other day is not enough. Fresh clean water every day is literally the bare minimum. Hay might need topping up ,what happens if they run out on a day they’re not being checked on?? Veggies need to be given daily, and any leftovers disposed of. Plus, don’t you want someone to interact with your bunny regularly? Being stuck in a cage all week is bad enough, let alone with no interaction…

I recently went away for a week and had my mum live in at mine for the week. Couldn’t stand the thought of them being alone and not knowing how they were. I compare it to leaving children alone. I just couldn’t do it.
