I am new to owning rabbits, and my two buns are only 3 months old. I read somewhere that they should be at least 7 months before you feed them veggies. Is this true? If not, when is a good time to start them on veggies?

Around 3 months old is ok to give veggies, however you have to start with small amounts and only one veggie at a time so that you can make sure their stomach handles it well. Generally, it is suggested to wait around 6 months until fruit is introduced.

Thank you Luna! I will probably start them on veggies soon. Are there any specific ones recommend for young rabbits?

Romaine is a good starter veg or coriander/cilantro

I agree, romaine is a good basic/staple veg . Dandelion or endive would be good too. Here’s a link to a list of other veggies you can try out down the road: http://rabbit.org/suggested-vegetables-and-fruits-for-a-rabbit-diet/

Thank you all! I will try to start them soon. And organic is always best, right?

It doesn’t have to be organic, but organic is good because some pesticides used on non-organics are harder to wash off. I try to buy organic for Luna, but if it’s not available at the store I’ll buy the non-organic. In either case, make sure you give the veggies a good wash. I submerge the veggies in water, rinse them in a strainer, then spin-dry them.
