Hi all! I live in Montreal, Canada.

My girlfriend and I have two bunnies who are 1.5 years old and we take care of them like our babies. They’re free to run around the house.

But we’re going on vacation for 10 days at the end of July and we don’t know anyone who we can trust our bunnies with. I haven’t had any luck with searching online.

Does anybody know of anyone who we can contact. Preferably someone who can come over and spend a few hours each day to keep them company, and take care of them. I’m happy to pay well for their time, but I need to be sure they know what they’re doing and have experience with rabbits.

        Thanks!

        Sammy

          Hi Sammy !

Have you find someone to take care of your babies? Where are you in Montreal ? I have the same problem, can’t find someone that I could trust. Have you think to see with a good veterinary hospital if someone could keep them, or if they can recomand you someone ?

          Mel

            Hi Mel,
No, unfortunately not yet. You’re the first person to reply to this post. 🙂
I live in the west island. You?

I do plan on asking the vet and the pet shops if they know anyone. I’ll let you know if I find anything.

            Sammy

Actually, that’s a good idea. Sometimes vet nurses do this as a second income.
What about those companies that come to your home to do pet care? You could interview someone in advance.

Yup, I plan on interviewing them first. You gave me a good idea Jerseygirl. Although I don’t think vets would be ok with baby sitting, I do know a few good people who work as technicians at the animal hospital, who have already taken good care of my bunnies. I think they wouldn’t mind the extra income if I ask them to spend a few hours with them at my house each day.

Mel, what area in Montreal are you?

All 4 vet nurses at my practice take cats in their own homes as a second income – if that’s any help

My vet practice does keep cats too if required, but they would be in a cage, so not ideal as a week or fortnight holiday replacement, more an emergency overnighter or two…. its good to know though….

How about a ‘local’ bunny club ?

                    Thanks Vienna.
Thats a good plan. I don’t think there are any bunny clubs in Montreal. Are there? Actually this is the first time I hear about a bunny club. I have two bunnies and I’m trying to bond them, and it’s not easy. So I’m surprised that there are bunny clubs, since as far as I’ve seen, bunnies don’t play nicely with others.

It would be awesome if there are any in Montreal.

Can’t give a direct response from here in Los Angeles.  However, if I ever need someone to take care of my bunnies when I’m on vacation, I’ll approach a bunny rescue organization nearby.  They house rescued bunnies and they will also house boarding rabbits.  If my wife and I go on vacation, our first provider will be my wife’s daughter.  If she can’t take care of the bunnies, then it’s off to the rescue facility for boarding.   The rescue facility has good sized pens for the rabbits, and also they allow them to all run together for free time for a few hours during the day.  I’ve watched the rabbits during their communal free time together, and most of the rabbits seem to enjoy being free to hop around with each other.  Some of the rabbits, being rabbits, do want to hide in some of the safe places in their free range area.

Sammybod, sorry didn’t make myself completely clear (I knew what I was typing !! lol) – for me a “bunny club” isn’t a club where you would take your bunny to play – but more like a Club where the human members would get together to talk about bunnies (sort of like BB, but in flesh and blood – lol)… or maybe breeders – but Flemmishwhite’s post is spot on – I too would go to a rescue place (check them out first), or a bunny bonder.

Check out rabbit rescue on Google and make a few calls !! If there really is NO facility for Holiday stays – then you could start making a few bucks on the side !!! LOL

I would not however, allow my bunnies to run around (and play?) with ones they didn’t know. Certainly never in my absence !
