I have tried multiple things to get my rabbit to eat hay. I have tried regular timothy hay as well as flavoured (marigold), but she won’t touch it. I have it in a hay holder currently but I have tried to just put it next to her food bowl as well.

She is willing to eat alfalfa, though the vet said she shouldn’t eat that once she became older than 6 months because it could harm her liver or something like that.

The only way that she will eat hay is when it is cubed. The only thing is that is a pretty expensive method of getting her to eat hay as her diet is supposed to be mostly hay and the packs of the cubed hay doesn’t have that much in it.

I am wondering if anyone has any tips to help encourage her to eat hay, or if anyone knows any flavours she might like better.

        Thanks!

          Try different types of hay.

Try orchard grass, it is a little sweeter, and some rabbits prefer it. There is also oat hay, meadow hay and others. For rabbits that prefer softer hay, there is second and third cuttings of timothy. One second cutting that my bunnies really like is American Pet Diner Timothy Gold. You can get that at Petco or several places online.

Adult rabbits can have a little alfalfa, but only as an occasional treat in a small quantity. You could try a light sprinkling of alfalfa over your timothy to see if that entices her to eat all the hay.
