Hi! I am new on here and already have a question to ask so here it goes… so I have a female Jersey woolly rabbit she is about two and a half and she is fixed. I have done lots of research and asked everyone this question and I get a different answer  every time I ask so I will ask you how much should I feed a jersey woolly rabbit?

Hi! Buns should get unlimited hay, and since she is an adult she should only get pellets in limited amounts. As to how much pellets, that answer usually varies between 1/8 cup to 1/2 cup per day. It really depends on your bun (ie. size, diet, health related circumstances). Similarly, the amount of veggies you give your bun will also depend on your bun’s individual health and circumstances. Some buns eat large amounts of veggies, while others with more sensitive stomachs may be fed fewer veggies. I think the most important thing is not an assigned amount per se, rather balancing the amount of hay, pellets, and veggies. You bun should eat more hay than anything else alone or in combination, then veggies and pellets. So diet should consist of 80% or more hay, then veggies and pellets (as well as the occasional fruit) can take up the rest.

Oh I didn’t know she was a tiny bun!  I really don’t know anything about breeds. I just looked at your profile and realized you have a Luna bun too lol! My Luna is 3 years old and 4.12 lbs, and I’m not 100% sure how much pellets I give her, but I know it’s definitely not more than 1/4 cup per day. I think a 1/2 cup would be too much for your bun. How much pellets has she typically been fed?
If she usually gets fed an amount that closer to 1/4 cup, then you could keep it at that amount and then scale it down if you notice she isn’t eating as much hay as she should, or if she usually gets fed less than that you could start at 1/8 cup and scale it up later if necessary.

You could probably give her a little more .

As an additional note, because she is a wool breed, they often require a little more protein to help maintain and grow their wool. So if you can find a timothy based pellet with slightly higher protein that could benefit her too (I don’t know what you’re currently feeding).

Since she’s so small I personally think 2 tablespoons would be fine, but Luna is right that a little more wouldn’t hurt. My buns are 2.5 and 3kg (5.5 and 6.6 pounds) and when I had them on pellets they only got 2 tablespoons each as well

By the way, this is Bunny Basics Hi
