So I was lucky enough to find a local hay supplier and got a huge bale (34lb) for $10. Well, it’s a good if a deal as I could find nearby. Anyway, I got the hay the first week of March. It was compressed and very difficult to chip away at, so I broke it apart and bagged it in garden bags. I made sure to shake as much flaky stuff out. I store it in my garage and it is fine. I started putting handfuls in a cardboard box and keeping it upstairs for ease of access, but for reason it’s been crumbling into dust in the box. The hay in the bag is fine…I’m not sure what is happening?

What is the best way to store hay indoors? I live above a garage, but it would be nice to have it at hand in the rabbits room.

Maybe you’re getting some small bugs in the inside hay that you can’t see? If so trying a plastic container with a lid might help keep them out.

Otherwise perhaps because you’re rummaging through it all the time the hay is breaking up a lot.
