I am doing some research in preparation for my first pet bunnies (a pair, a boy and a girl). I wanted to research vets for spaying/neutering ahead of time. I just got a quote from one vet, who said that the procedure alone would be ~$700, and would require a separate check-up prior to the procedure (no price quote on that). I’ve read online that the average cost is ~$250, so this seems pretty high to me.

Anyone have any suggestions for places that do spays/neuters? I’m in the Greater Boston area, but willing to drive just about anywhere in MA if it means a much cheaper procedure…

That price does sound very high. You could call your local humane society and see if there are any low cost spay/neuter clinics in the area that include rabbits (most only do dogs and cats).

Here is a list of rabbit savvy vets in a few states, including MA. It was last updated at the end of 2015, but hopefully is still current.

700$ seems extreme. The gas + tools needed alone is 150 for males and 245ish for females as does are a bit more involved it sounds like your paying for a vets ego.

That seems extortionate! I’m in the UK so this won’t really provide much help but my boy was neutered for £60ish and my girl was spayed for around £100 and that included oral pain relief. We didn’t buy pain relief for my little boy as we had leftover metacam (girl was spayed 10 days before him) Both amounts included a post op check 3 to 5 days later.

Tony is booked in for his neutering next week, but the prices I was quoted were in the 140-160 euro range. I’m not sure how much the pain relief will be, but I do know that includes a check up aftercare appointment too.

Chewie’s neuter cost us $65′ since we got a voucher from the rabbit rescue in our area. If there is one in yours, maybe you could check if they offer a discount?
