I found my bunny chewing on an empty play dough container (one of the small pocket-sized ones) and i couldn’t find the play dough anywhere so I assume he ate it. I called the vet and they said as long as he’s eating (which he is) and drinking and pooping (not sure about those two), he should be fine. Has anyone else experienced this before/know what to expect?

I can’t offer any advice on what reaction it might have towards a bunny but I have googled what playdoh is made of before as I wondered what effect if might have on a child if they ate it. Obviously it needs to be non toxic if a child puts it in their mouth.
          This is what google says:
“The exact ingredients of Play-Doh compound are proprietary, so we cannot share them with you. We can tell you that it is primarily a mixture of water, salt and flour. It does NOT contain peanuts, peanut oil, or any milk byproducts. It DOES contain wheat.”

“Play-Doh compound is non-toxic, non-irritating & non-allergenic except as noted: Children who are allergic to wheat gluten may have an allergic reaction to this product. Also, due to the high salt content in Play-Doh compound, the product can be harmful to pets if ingested”

Make sure he drinks. Hand feed hay if that makes him eat more of it.
Whether this is bad or not depends on the amount he ate. There’s not a lot to do except observe his eating, drinking and toiletting. Bunnies can’t vomit so what they eat must pass through. They do eat the weirdest things sometimes, and come out just fine.

It isn’t toxic. The biggest concern would be a blockage. What your vet advised is standard protocol in this type of situation. Like Bam said, you want to make sure everything keeps moving by encouraging water and hay intake. It should come out on the other end. Keep an eye on his eating/pooping. If he stops eating or pooping, then you’ll know there is a problem. That would be the time to take him to the vet.

Bam is right, buns do seem to eat some strange things with no ill effects.
