Hello. We have a house bunny, almost 2 years old. We found her as a baby and she is spayed. We also have 2 older house cats. We are considering getting a better companion for our little girl. Do you think it would be unwise to try to add a new baby to our household since Winnie is pretty set in her ways? Thank you so much.

It really does depend if you can find a laid back neutered male around the same age as her it is likely to work out just fine. It really does depend on your rabbit. Quite a lot of shelters offer bonding sessions where your bun can meet a possible house mate. They aren’t ideal as it does mean taking your bunny out of the home but can save a lot of stress later on when your trying to decide what to do if things don’t work out. It is great having two bunnies though. Hope this helps x

Most rabbits love the companionship of their own kind, but there are a few rabbits who prefer to be the sole rabbit in the house, so you have to be prepared to house the rabbits separately in the slim chance that they could not bond. It is usually easier to bond a female with a male – spayed and neutered, of course, although you can bond same sex rabbits. Most or all rescues and some shelters/humane societies will have rabbits that are already spayed or neutered. If you adopt one of them, it would save you money, plus you would be able to start the bonding sooner. If the rabbit was already spayed or neutered when you adopted him or her, you could start bonding a week or so after letting the new one settle in. If the rabbit wasn’t spayed or neutered until it was adopted, you would need to wait a month or even a little longer, for the hormones to abate before trying bonding.

I just added a second bun to our household. I did a lot o reading before hand and found out bonding an adult to a baby is very difficult. Our girl is 7 months old and we found a boy who is a month younger. Once he is neutered, and healed up we will begin the bonding process.

Bramble was a little over a year old when we decided to get Ron who was around 2 and a half at the time. They both adore each other and Bramble is so much happier so I totally recommend having a pair

Thank you all for the feedback. It is much appreciated. We will be on the lookout for a neutered male and proceed from there. I will let you know how it goes.

                  Thanks again
