        Hello,

I am posting today with troubled heart. One of my rabbits is ill. I took her to the vet immediately when I realized something was wrong..

It isn’t good. She is incredibly weak because she has lost so much muscle. The vet said her body isn’t holding onto the nutrients she is intaking (she has been eating and drinking and pooping normally/plenty). It had made her so weak she can barely walk.  My heart is breaking seeing her like this. The vet did some blood work and saw what was low. They still aren’t really sure what is wrong though. They gave us a couple different medication and critical care packets and we are to return monday (we went friday) for more results. I will include the blood results with this post.

Idk what to do guys. The vet kept on saying how it wasn’t my fault, but I can’t help feel like I let her down. I’m following all the instructions he gave me. It is just not looking good though. We have only had her for 7 months. She is a rescue. They didn’t know much about her, and they got her age wrong (saying she was 2, when really she is probably closer to 4). But we still love her so so much.

I’m sorry to hear Nibbles is ill. I have no idea if this applies to buns, but if an animal is eating/drinking normally and still not getting enough nutrients, it makes me think of something parasitic that is taking away the nutrients that the animal ingests. I hope you can get some answers and that the vet will have a better idea of what’s going on Monday. Luna sends vibes ((((Nibbles))))

What I learned in army medical is that any body will eat itself if it’s not getting nutrients. It could something such as genetic disorder the mat you have no control of, or like luna said there could be a parascyte. Have you tried making critical care paste? (Water and pellets in a syrange) in an attempt to try and force feed your bunny.

Muscle wasting can be a symptom of several illnesses. Sometimes there are pathological processes that consume lots of nutrients, sometimes it’s about poor uptake. Critical care fed by syringe would be a good place to start. It’s vital that she gets high quality food in easily digestible form. Did the vet give her sub q fluids?

Any updates? We’re not vets here so we can’t interpret the blood test, but here’s a guide that can help you understand the various acronyms and what their levels might signify:
