So, good news is my Bun is completely litter trained and will go back into her cage during free time to use it, Yeah!  So I’m reluctant to change up litter box to throw her off, but things have gotten a little rough here.

        The summary.

Started with a corner litter box (the high back, low front ones) and care fresh paper bedding for litter after a couple of false starts with other options.  Worked great.  Moved her to bigger cage, she likes to throw stuff around, kept flipping litter box, but hey, corner litter box has a snap hook, there we go.

But we aren’t happy  with that, dig/kick out litter.  Learn to still bang box against ground and get all litter out.  Still using litter box! Litter box completely eaten along edge, so I take a cue from here and try a rectangle one.  Might have been a little small for her, but she let her feelings know by pushing it out of the way and soon as cage door was open shoving it out.  Several days, still just shoved in out.

On to a new corner pan with TWO clips.  It’s solid.  No she just digs the litter (and poop) out.  She is digging all the litter out and emptying it as soon as I put it in all fresh, so it’s not because it needs changed. Tried adding hay, still just empties it out.  That would be fine, but then it’s just a soup of urine and poop and she’s sitting in it.  I know that is not good for her.  So I just lined it with newspaper and put some hay in this am.  Got hay out ASAP, left newspaper.  I just don’t think the newspaper is absorbent enough to keep her bunny but dry and hygienic enough.

Any thoughts? If I could get a deeper, larger pan that she would use and I could secure down somehow that might help.  But I haven’t seen any securement ideas for them.

Addendum: In the time it took me to post this she managed to dig out the flat newspaper and had folding carefully and really wedged in there, and throw it out of cage.  She really doesn’t like litter!  Still using pan.

Sounds like my girl, litter trained instantly but had issues digging the litter. (Doesn’t do it anymore)

Try a screen to cover the litterbox. Since its a corner it’s most likely from a pet shop which may have a screena available or another box with a screen. It’s what I used for Winter. At first she did just take the screen off and dig but I kept putting it back and eventually she left it. A bit later took the screen off totally and there never were problems again.

It might be she just likes the digging, not that she’s unhappy with the box.. Though, her throwing it out the cage says differently! She sounds very spunky!

How about trying a hay rack then a screen over the litter? But I think you would need to provide something else for her to dig in by the sounds of it.
