        Hey friends,

I’m probably worrying too much but bandit had his surgery yesterday and I’m worried I’m messing things up. He seems pretty happy when I brought him home. He lounged all day pretty much and today I’m worried I’m keeping him caged too long. He’s been really shy and I fear I’m not being caring enough. He is eating urinating and pooping normally and accepts treats when offered. But today he just reacts at everything in his cage. Am I being overly worried or is this just a post op phase that will pass eventually. I’m trying to limit his movement but I haven’t checked his wound as he does not like being picked up or flipped at all.

Like us humans sometimes we want ‘Alone time’ after an operation, or even something like a tooth out, the vet will check his tummy, I think bunny has a check up after, I’m sure Bandit is quite happy and knows you love him, he can see you, he will wait until its time to come out again, his operation was only yesterday, give it a few days, Olly doesn’t like being picked up, so I would be concerned if he had had an operation, but if he had and there were no drops of blood on the floor I would think he’s OK, you could sneak in if he sleeps on his side to have a quick look, or have you got a tiny mirror so if he stands up you can put it under him to have a quick peek?
Its normal for Bunny parents to worry about our babies, because we have a duty to care for them.

He normally loafs so I can’t get a look, the vet made a super small incision she said so unless I restrain him I won’t catch it.

            Update:

Groomed him and attempted to flip him over but he’s too squirmy I can’t get it done. So I’m just going to assume he’s ok. He came out to play and wasn’t too happy afterwards but he seems ok now

Don’t feel guilty about keeping him confined to his cage – it’s actually good for them to be confined for a period of time after a surgery so that they can’t pull out the stitches while running, jumping, etc. If he is pooping and eating normally, he’s likely all good Also, after surgeries, some buns tend to be pretty grumpy/sleepy/just want to be alone. My Chomondeley slept for about two hours when he came home and then was pretty disoriented and wasn’t that happy with me for a couple of days. As long as Bandit is eating, pooping, and drinking normally & there is no blood, no stitches ripped out, etc., he should be fine. Hope he recovers speedily!

My boy is the most skittish bun ever, never got to check his incision but he healed fine even after complications and an overnight stay. If you’re really concerned, hold a treat in the air so they periscope and check then. How I did my girl after spay because I didn’t want to bother her by lifting her up.

I tried all day to periscope view him. He’s really good at doing it with treats however his under fur is so thick it’s hard to see since the incision is only 2 inches long with minimal shaved fur (I asked)

I’m just going to assume that bandit is ok and I’m sleeping next to his pen to ensure that there’s no grunting or issues while I’m asleep. On a completely unrelated not I cooked bacon and eggs for dinner while he was roaming around the living room and he became terrified and thumped whenever I spoke to him. Only when I aired the apartment and soaked my arms and changed my clothes he happily came up to me again.

If there were extensive swelling you’d see it when he periscopes even if there’s fur and the incision is small.

Appetite and normal pooping/peeing is probably the best indicator of health.

Some buns go through a post-neuter-craze due to fluctuating hormone levels after a neuter. It normally lasts about 2 weeks. During this time the bun can be extra territorial, with pee-and poop marking, aggression and mating behaviors. It’s normal.

You don’t have to cage him for more than 1-2 days, he can have playtime day 2 so he doesn’t get too restless.
