My 5 month old lionhead has started lunging and grunting at me whenever I touch her play toys. She’s never done it before today and I don’t know what to do. I haven’t spay her since I don’t have the funds yet. Is there a way I can get her to stop doing things like that until I can get the procedure done?

Sadly no she’s going to nest. It’s her hormones, are you interacting with them as she’s playing with them?

Agreed that its hormones. Rabbits can became heavily territorial when they reach puberty. Youll eventually want to spay her to avoid cancers, which around 70 percent of female rabbits get by age 3

No I was just cleaning up, she was under my bed and came charging at me and grunted at me and lunged. I do plan on getting her spayed within this month for sure. I guess I just have to understand what’s hers is hers

Yes I do plan on spaying her this month. Will that behavior stop afterwards?

There will be a grace period where she will become a bit more agressive after the surgery but this will shortly stop in a few days or a week

It will take between two and six months before all of her hormones are drained, so it should stop in that timeline. You can do some training as well, when she lunges, make a yip noise, pause for a moment, then continue doing what you were doing

                      Hello,

It sounds like this behavior is hormonally based and once you get her spayed it should stop, however don’t expect it to Stop right away after the spay because it does take several months for her hormones to balance out after the spay. So I think it will Stop after the spay my female rabbit before the spay would Box me when I would try and clean her cage, she was very territorial during this time, after the spay, few months have gone by this behavior completely Stopped. However sometimes after the spay it might Not STOP because My friends male rabbit used to do the same thing before the neuter he hated when you touched his litter box, toys in cage ect A year after the neuter he is still territorial when it comes to his cage and stuff, grunting and charging That’s just him and his personality.
