        Hi all,

I am still in the process of bonding with my bunny- but I am kind of confused!

I will pick Marley up and put him on my bed with no issues, but when I pet him he just sits there and shakes! He seems to just tolerate it, not enjoy it or anything, but he doesn’t run away either. I don’t know if I am scaring him or if he is just breathing quickly. I don’t want to push him! He normally moves away when he doesn’t want me to touch him. Have any of you witnessed something similar?

When you say he shakes, do you feel it when you are petting his head? It could be tooth purring that you’re feeling.

Hiyo! If just his head shakes, it could be the result of tooth purring, which is a sign of content. If his entire body shakes (not as a result of jaw movement, but intentionally, on its own), this is something entirely different.

It’s his whole body! His nose moves a lot and it seems like his breathing increases because his body shakes also. It seems like something a scared bunny would do but usually when scared or bothered he just runs away!

I actually noticed that I THINK he shakes more when I place him on my bed and pet him, so I will stop doing that just in case is actually afraid.

That’s a good idea. If a bun is scared he/she won’t always run away, especially if they are in an elevated position. As to the breathing fast, Marley is still young so as he grows bigger, his breathing probably won’t shake his whole body as noticeably as it does now.

Is it his breathing moving his entire body? If so, that could be a sign of overheating. That could also help explain why he doesnt run away, and why it happens more often while on the bed where it is warmer than on the floor
