Hello everyone my bunny pongos GI track recently stopped working so I took him to the vet and he’s gotten better he’s now on critical care formula and a appetite stimulator medication, he’s was on some other meds but the vet took him off of them, I had him hospitalized for two days I just got him back yesterday to keep over the weekend if he does not improve over the weekend I’m suppose to take him to the vet school at CSU here in Colorado for more testing but I can’t decide if I should do that yet. He is starting to eat his hay again and drink water he won’t eat all his hay he won’t eat any of his pellets and for the most part he really likes only eating bunny treats now hes having about 40 droppings a day and he was having just 5-10 so he’s improving but I still don’t know if I should take him in. So he can get even more help with his recovery cause he just seems so sad and low energy I’m doing everything I can.

Pellets are often the last thing a bun goes back to eating, how is he doing with veggies? It can take a while to fully bounce back from a bout of stasis, but eating on his own and pooping are great signs

Apples and carrots should be given in moderation – how much are you giving? Too much sugar can upset the tummy massively.

                Sorry your bunny is unwell.

Did the vet do any X-rays while he was there?

Thank you little puffy tail they did do X-rays on him and they said they didn’t see anything ab normal. I’ve really just been trying to feed him whatever he’ll eat just to keep his system going he his a picky eater too even when he wasn’t sick. What concerns me the most is it seems like he’s just laying down a lot and not doing much for such a young bunny maybe still just recovering and needs rest?

Sometimes buns just want to lay around and hang out . I wouldn’t worry as long as he is eating/drinking and pooping normally, and laying down as opposed to hunching or doing gas push-ups. Laying around and relaxing is fine as long as it is accompanied by at least some type of movement (ie. hopping over to you or the food bowl), as opposed to lethargy. Still, every human knows their bun best, so continue to keep an eye on him for any additional behavioral changes just in case.

Thanks so much Luna! It’s always so scary and sad when your bun gets sick.
