One of our boys pees everywhere there is hay or litter in his box, he doesn’t have a good place to nest because his pee is everywhere. How can I get him to use his litter box and keep his nesting area clean?

Could you inform us on your setup of his cage?

            Hi Ceejay

Are you lining his habitat with some sort of bedding material? ie. Wood shavings, paper bedding, hay or straw etc?

Is your bunny neutered? It can be difficult to fully litter box train a rabbit who hasn’t been spayed or neutered. Also, you should only have litter or bedding in the litter box, not on the floor of the cage. If bedding is all over the floor of the cage, it can be confusing to a rabbit. Maybe you could use some kind of hay rack to keep that off the floor too, if he is peeing on it.

We have three rabbits, each with their own hutch. All three hutches have an upstairs and a downstairs area. The litter box is on the first floor and there is a snug room upstairs. The other two rabbits have lots of hay in their upstairs room, and snuggle up to keep warm. They keep the upstairs room clean. We have tried using hay and other nesting materials upstairs as well as leaving the floor bare and feeding him up there but he still insists on peeing up there. He has a very good appetite for greens, so the other night we left the floor bare and put his greens upstairs. Rather than eat his greens he peed on them. All three rabbits are spayed, bonded, and play well when out of their hutches.

Is this a new behavior or has he always had poor little habits?

We’ve only had him a few weeks, he’s always done it.
