My precious baby, Marley Quinn, was dead this morning when I woke up. She was stretched out in her litter box, not breathing. She was fine last night. She played in her playpen during the day, she free ranged in the living room while the (human) baby slept, and then she came to bed with her daddy and me to strech out, flop, snuggle and watch tv for almost 2 hours before I put her back in her cage for the night. She had plenty of hay, water, and pellets for the night. I changed her bedding that morning, (were still working on potty training—but she was doing really well!!) So I know there were fresh(ish) poops this morning when I looked in, and no diarrhea. She had eaten her pellets, but there so I know she wasn’t hungry. (She mostly ate hay though) at only an estimated 10 or so weeks, what happened? The only “symptoms” I noticed was that she breathed kind of fast, but Dr.Google told me it was ok…And sometimes she was twitchy and scratched her ears…But also read that was normal.
She had no signs of parasites or other disease. She was the most unexpectedly precious and perfect bunny–she actually appeared to crave attention. When I set her down on the couch or floor beside me, many times she would climb back up on to me, sometimes all the way up to my neck, and nose boop my face. I thought it was meant to be. She was my dream bunny. I’ll miss you, Marley Quinn. I’m sorry I couldn’t have you with me longer. No other bun can compare.

I’m so sorry Cinnamoroll. It was just last week that you introduced little Marley to all of us. It could have been a genetic defect that affected her, so I don’t think you did anything wrong by her.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It sounds like this was sth congenital and not something you could have foreseen or prevented. A heart attack seems likely, fast breathing can sometimes be due to a heart issue (lungs and heart work closely together).

Binky free, sweet little Marley Quinn.

Thank you for your condolences and input. I will not be buying a baby bunny again. I will try to adopt an adult. This was just so shocking and heart breaking.

I’m sure you will find a lovely adult bun to suit your family and I’m sure Marley will be very happy to know that you’re offering your home up for another bunny in need x ~Hugs~ It is so hard when you don’t know the cause of it.

                        So sorry for your loss
How old was Marley ? If Marley was weaned to early and then moved to you the stress has been known to take its take about a week later and results in sudden death
From your profile photo it appears Marley was quite young ?

The age they are weaned isn’t usually the cause ( although it is highly recommended they are not weaned before 6-7 weeks) but the time between weaning and moving to a home/petshop is- for example a 8week old bunny -unweaned-taken from Mum and put into a petshop then off to a home a day later would be more likely to suffer the sudden death approx a week later than a 6week old bunny that was weaned at 5weeks but Mum was removed then and baby bunny was left with his /her litter mates for a week – no change in environment – only change was the weaning – then a week later taken to new home / petshop is far more likely to survive

I’m sorry for your loss truly. She sounds lile the cutest little thing. And as someome who had a little one and lost her so soon I feel for you truly and you have my deepest sympathies.

It’s hard to say what happened, but it would seem she was at peace, and that she was deeply loved and certainly knew that.

I guessed she was 8 weeks. All they could tell us was that they just got them in the day before we came in and got her. So it really sounds like that’s a possibility of what happened to her breaks my heart even more. Irresponsible breeders and irresponsible stores….She was so absolutely sweet…I miss her crawling up onto my chest and giving me love boops…. but I will never buy from a store again….
