        Hi Everyone,

First time I have posted here, and I’m posting because I’m about to lose my first ever bunny and my best friend, Peanut.

She has struggled with teeth/jaw problems since about 1 years old on and off with treatment, success and then back to square one. She’s currently 3 and a half, and we struggled and pushed to find the reason behind her constant infections. We finally had some answers when the specialist advised us that from her CT scan, it was chronic Bone Disease. She is being euthanized Saturday morning, and I’m absolutely devastated. I’ve been crying for days, and it really does feel like my heart is being torn to bits.

People who have never had a rabbit have no idea of the affection, loyalty and personality of these little creatures. We are gifted to have such beautiful little things in our lives.

Any words of comfort would be greatly appreciated from another bunny lover, because at the moment I’m counting down the hours and crying, terrified of what I must face. And, picking urns and jewellery for her ashes is something that is even more difficult than expected.

I’m so sorry, it’s tough losing a pet and having to euthanize them is much worse. Personally having never needed to do so I just can’t imagine. But you’re doing the right thing and she’ll be safe from any future pain.

I would guess you’re already doing this, but spend as much time as possible with her.

I’m so very sorry that you have had to make this difficult decision. I’m not familiar with chronic bone disease, but I take it further treatment isn’t possible.

The only thing to do is of course to spend as much time with her as you can. Give her her favorite treats (if she can eat them) and try not to be too upset/cry when you are around her. That is a terribly hard thing to do, perhaps not even possible, but rabbits pick up on our emotions.

Grieving is very difficult, but there’s no other way to go but through it. It does get better with time, but it can take a long time. You’ve given her a life full of love, and that’s a beautiful thing. It’s very unfair and her life ought to have been longer, of course, but those are among the things that are not in our hands. We can only be so very grateful for the time we do get together.

I had to make that choice for one of our buns, Rusty, a couple of years ago, when he had a retrobulbar mass that spread into the skull. It is a heart-breaking choice to have to make, but it does sound like you have given yr bun a very happy life, and are doing what is best for her on Saturday

Thanks Everyone, it is extremely tough, especially still seeing her now, still doing her normal thing’s she’s used to doing..like running and sliding on tiles and eating on the lounge like us humans lol

Unfortunately no, there’s no further treatment we can do here that wouldn’t come at the cost of her still being in pain, she would have to be on pain medication the rest of the life to try and minimise any infections, and I just don’t think that’s fair :'(
Hopefully in the future they find more ways to treat our little pocket pets.
