Is this cage big enough?

I know most commercial pet cages aren’t big enough for bunnies but I plan on getting a Holland Lop and wondered if this cage was big enough to spend time in during the day when I’m not home (I have two dogs with very high prey drive) and to sleep in at night? Just make sure your bun can’t touch the top of the cage when standing up. Luna’s is a 4.13 lb. mini lop and her cage is 22″ high, so if your bun is smaller than her then 19″ should work, though the ledge with the bowl on it might be a problem because your bun will definitely reach the top of the cage standing up on that. Width is perfect, and since the length is so big you could get a cage with up to 12 inches less length in exchange for more height. You can get a lot of cage size for the price of that particular hutch you chose, so feel free to look around at other options if you’re undecided .

If there is a cage that is better in the height department, please link it! I am totally up to suggestions. It just seems like the taller cages are pretty small length wise. &nbsp;Something that will fit indoors and will give the bunny easy access in and out of the cage when I'm home.&nbsp;</p>

It’s certainly bigger than most cages sold for rabbits in pet stores. I read some reviews and a few people thought that the construction was flimsy, even though it got 4 stars overall. Since you have dogs, is it possible that they would be jumping against the cage? Not only could that be frightening to the rabbit, but if the cage didn’t hold up, they could get at the rabbit. One person said that they removed the little ledge because their rabbit was sticking his head under it and they were afraid he would get it stuck.

This was the other cage I was looking at, but it seems like a litter pan would take up half the cage! The height is much better, though, and seems to be well constructed with good reviews overall. Luna has the same one in a Large. I think it’s one of the largest ones you will find for less than $200.

Just found another option. There is a National Geographic connectable habitat that is a petsmart exclusive. You are supposed to be able to connect them to make a larger cage but I am not quite sure how.  Does anyone have any experience with these or know how it works? Yep, she has the living world in a large. The living world XL is one of the largest single floor indoor cages I’ve seen for under $200, but there are plenty of two-story cages for under $200 as well.

Have you ever thought of using a dog crate? The XL sizes of those are a little larger than the cages you are looking at. Or you could probably use the L size since you will have a small breed rabbit. I have never used one, but I know that others here have one for their rabbits. You should get the 2 door styles, because the 1 door crates have the door at the end and it would be difficult to get the rabbit out if it was at the other end, or to clean it. The 2 door crates have the second door in the middle of the front of the crate.

That is a neat idea about the dog crates. How would bedding work, though? I want to be able to use shavings for odor control with wood pellets in a littler box. The shavings would just come out of those dog crates it seems like.

If you use shavings or any kind of litter on the floor of the cage, it can be confusing to the rabbit and they may just use the bathroom all over the shavings instead of going in the litter box. It is advised that the only litter or bedding be in the litter box. If you clean out the litter box daily, usually just one area will get wet or have poops in it, there shouldn’t be any odor. Until a rabbit has been spayed or neutered, you may not be completely successful in litter box training him or her anyway.

I have the XL living world habitat. Personally, I think its a good cage. It’s easy to put together, comes with a hidey house and a ledge, it looks good, etc. It’s important the bun can go on their hind legs on both the bottom of the cage and the ledge. My 2-3lb bun bugs can, I’ll attach some pictures so you can see how big the cage is in comparison to her. I think it’s also important to mention that the cage alone is definitely not enough space!! My girl now has her own room, but even before I was making sure she was out of her cage for the majority of the day and only put her in her cage when I went to bed or wasn’t home!

Thank you for those photos! It is a nice looking cage. I think right now it’s between that one and the one in my OP. My bunny WILL have several hours of free range time a day but he’s not going to have his own room 24/7 or anything like that because of the dogs and the way our house is set up so that is why I want to make sure he has a cage home that is big and spacious enough for him to hop around in when he’s not having his free time.

Also, that is an interesting setup you have! Is that two corner litter boxes in the one cage? Or is one for hay? I have been reading that the corner litter boxes aren’t usually enough space but yours look pretty big

yeah, two corner litterboxes . I found that the other ones I looked at either took up too much room or were too high up for her to want to jump in and out. Shes also small enough to fit in them, unlike lots of bigger breads. I have them both topped up with hay on top because she likes to eat while she poops haha! she usually favours using one of them throughout the day and then uses the cleaner one at night, she also will go to the bathroom in one while she eats out of the other, so they work for her! Hope that helps

I’ve had both the L and XL version of the Living World Deluxe Habitat. I owned the size L one when I only had one holland lop, and decided to upgrade to the XL version when I got my second bunny. The two of them live very comfortably together in the XL at night (during the day they get to run around the house). I think the XL would be plenty big for one rabbit!

I’m pretty happy with the quality of these cages, btw. I’ve disassembled and reassembled them several times (my bunnies come on road trips with me) and they’ve held up very well! I really have no complaints. Just my two cents

The litter tray with the white rim is a jumbo scatterless lock n litter – and it’s plenty big enough for a adult holland lop – I use to have them but they are pricey here – like $50 vs a $8 cat tray

That cage will be fine for a holland
Mine is similar measurements ( height on mine is 45cm and Oakley my 5month old holland lop can’t touch the top even when on his tip toes!)

Here are pictures of the Living World cages. Sorry the angle isn’t great – my younger bunny is getting hormonal (but too young to be spayed) so for the past few days I’ve had to keep them in separate cages. Orange bunny is in the size L cage, broken chestnut in the XL.

Thank you for those pictures! Adorable bunnies. I think I am leaning towards the XL because of durability and my dogs. I read a review that said it was one of the only cages someone’s high prey drive husky wasn’t able to get into. We do put our dogs behind a gate in the kitchen/entry when we leave, but there have been a few times over the years when they’ve gotten out and it’s not something I would want to risk with a precious little bunny.
